the most powerful position in the world.

Yeah, that's scary considering the bozo that spent the last 8 years there. But Dubya has no real power, he has been run like a puppet on a string by those who pay the most, and his dad and Cheney.

No offense to Sla, but I hope there will be a change in powers, republicans have *apple pied* too much up already. (Apple pie was written by me so that Admins didn't have to ). If John McCain wins the elections I fear that terror and war will continue as he is the weapons industry lobbies number one candidate...

Let flaming begin....

Spoken truly like someone who has no real idea on how the US government is operated.

A.  Its not a democracy, its a Federal Republic.  In a democracy, every citizen has a vote on every subject.  In a republic, the citizens elect representitives to vote for them.

B.  The Office of the President has very little real power, he can propose things, he can send troops out in an emergency situation, but realistically Congress wields the power.  But that is the way the founding fathers set it up on purpose.

Anyone the Republicans put up is better than either the Socialist, or the guy who had been consistantly rated 'the worst legislator' in Illinois Legislature.  At least the three canidates there have enough experience to properly do the job.

As a parent, McCain would be the only current canidate  I would feel right about sending soliders into action.  He has the first hand knowledge of what challenges those men and women would face and the outcomes of them.

I fully believe that China will launch an offensive war within the next 40 years.  No communist system has lasted more than 100 years.  China's manufacturing economy is growing too quickly and their agriculture suffers because of it.  Already at this point they can't feed their current population, and that problem is only going to worsen.  The triple effects of shrinking agriculture output, increasing enviromental damage, increasing population is going to force them into some kind of action.

I personally couldn't care less. Americans have to be one of the most arrogant and ignorant nationalities in the world. Sorry to any non-ignorant Americans out there who actually know where Kazakhstan is on a map.. Or don't think that Europe is a country..

back on topic...if i was old enough, i would vote for Obama :D

hehe, you do realize that this map has the wrong capital city? Oh well, it doesn't really matter.

As for me I would rather have Obama and then Clinton. One thing which really concerns me is our environment and I believe that democratic candidates will address the problem of global warming better. Unless maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger would run, but at this point in time that is impossible of course.

Additionally, I fear that republican candidates might keep their aggressive course in the Middle East which would divide the world even further. It's unbelievable the amount of people who declare that they hate the United States.... and it wasn't always like this. Through Bush the US has lost a lot of credit. Somebody has to go out and build trust again....Especially Obama would seem to be the right guy

I would argue about that... but who knows what would happen? Maybe the US would nuke China in 20 years because they fear what you said China would do in 40 years.
(And the fear you have, I would attribute that to generation gap and the socialization you had when you were small... so not your fault. It is the society's fault.)

As for whether the President has any "real power", seriously... whenever he says something wrong, the stock prices drop and the oil prices raise. Good enough? (I guess what I am trying to say is that when that guy is perceived as powerful, what he says matter, regardless of how capable he is of delivering on what he says. If he says the country will go to war in China, even the congress doesn't approve, I believe China would "strike back" before the congress has time to vote... and then US would "strike back" as well. )

btw regarding stupidity or ignorance, it's spread all over the world and not circumscripted  in just the US.
I fairly think the place where I live has a lot of ignorant people.
Just yesterday my classmate asked me where would Singapore be(Ok this might be to hard for him) or people believe that The Capital of Australia is Sydney and even after the Burmese/Myanmar Junta people still didn't know where is that place. Many people don't even know what's apartheid. Just a year ago a TV programme interviewed some politicians (more Senators or House representatives) and they didn't even know when did the French Revolution happened or referred Afghanistan as Afakistan .
But the worst is yet to come. Once i witnessed a conversation asking a Singhalese whether it rained in his country or not .
Intelligence will for sure bring you far but you need that minimum of common sense to live life.

And same holds true for the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank.  Should I be concerned about his lack of foreign policy experience?

As CornField pointed out, the real power in the United States is in the Congress, not the Executive Branch, all the implications of an "Imperial Presidency" notwithstanding.  In the end, the President can only do what Congress funds him for.  No funding=no action.  Period.  It is the power of the purse.

The President is the most over-rated position there is.  His real power is limited.  In every case I can think of since I was born, he is elected based on promises that he has no authority to keep.  The President cannot enact universal healthcare or the FairTax or make a cut in spending - all of that is the purview of Congress, as is the funding and declaration of war.  He can't even propose the bills for any of these items.  More than anything else, he is the saber-rattler in chief.

Actually, if you want to attribute any of what I said to the 'generation' that I grew up in, I would have said that the Soviet Union would launch the war........

My statement is based on economics, a study of history, and watching the Chinese government run students over with tanks for protesting......

The president cannot cause stock prices to drop with his statements.  That requires the actions of traders.  The traders want to percieve something in the statement, so they can profit from it.  Oil prices ran up so badly this summer, not due to the actions or inactions of the government.  They ran up due to oil traders driving them there.  Or if you want to believe the press, China's exploding consumption.  I know that as a Chinese citizen you are going to defend the Chinese actions at every opportunity.  But the facts remain, currently the US and Chinese economies are invariably linked.  One of your own Economic Ministers(I'm sorry I don't remember exactly which one) recently said so....
