General Chat / Airline Value
« on: October 25, 2007, 12:23:48 am »
I searched, and looked as much as i could bare to look. I'm not sure where to find this so i'm posting a new topic. I'm sorry to those who don't think it's appropriate.

I want to know how airline value is calculated. Is it the value of all your aircraft, plus any terminals? Or what does it consist of?

What is Capacity dumping?

An extreme example would be run a short route (JFK-EWR) with a B744 for say... 20 freq a day.

i thought ther was a 10 freq limit? just sayin. should be using 10 freq in the example i think.

General Chat / ultra short rutes

yeah i dont have a problem with this either. im not going to be mean and say deal with it or something like that. there is an aspect that you want this game to be realistic to way things are run in "real life". in the u.s. at least there are probobly very very few routes that would be worth flying that are short like this. but also in real life, just like the game, you can take a risk. if it's profitable, you keep it, if it's not, you close it. so you want to keep the game like real life but you also want to expand. like maybe a big airport where the potential for a lot of passengers are but it's not being used in real life as a commercial airport. there should maybe be a way for those to be added. to help us all expand.

the short routes, however, such as this, i wonder what they should be based on. should they be based on total passenger numbers at each airport? should u be able to fly a jfk-lga route with 66 million total passengers? im not exactly sure. and it could be a split opinion for everyone. but i'm fine with the way things are.

the only reason you'd have to complain is if you wanted to fly it too when there are 10 other airlines on the route. and in that case you're just complaining so you can either be the only one or so you can make it so no one else has the route.

if there would be anything to complain about this route would be that i dont think anyone in real life would put two of these aircraft on the same route, as they are big, and probobly would not pay in real life except for a few select routes.
Disney Airlines Lockheed Super Constellation L-1049 0.5 €90
Disney Airlines Lockheed Super Constellation L-1049 0.5 €90

but i think it should be left as is, as it is not against the rules to take risks, is it?

must be some sort of formula or mathmatical thing. i remember it would cost like 30 million at wash dc and like 12 million at burbank. somethin like that. but not sure what the breakdown of what makes up the cost is. would be nice to find out

that's a benefit of alliances.
those hubs in europe are provided by our european partners air portugal and airpak.
Emirates Air has decided to run flights from europe and start leasing planes. All of his flights in the middle east were canceled except for the european ones.
why?

because he wanted to. he felt the european market was better probobly.

i still dont get why there's not some way you can restrict this. i know i've had ideas before that have been shot down left and right. but why can't there be a minimum, different per aircraft, that could be charged per seat. idc if it's 20 bucks, as yes i've been told a million times, that's competition for ya. but, still, you shouldnt be able to get bored with the game and set your routes at 100 euro net profit each, so you're not losing but not gaining money (although you would be losing some money because that couldnt cover gate costs) and then they stop playing the game. or check it once or twice a real month. not right in my mind. i'm just saying this, but i'm sure no one will ever put any of my ideas in the game. not saying they wouldnt read them though.

General Chat / profit per plane?

Phoenix   41,204,071
Denver   43,307,335
Las Vegas   44,280,190
Dallas/Ft.Worth   59,064,360
Los Angeles   61,485,269
Chicago O Hare   76,766,776
Atlanta   85,894,947

and there are almost 10 times more airports in N. America and Europe than in the Mid East
it's almost not fair

well that's how the market is. that's how traveling is. the people who make the better economy's travel more, for buisiness and pleasure. you didnt have to be in the middle east, you could've chose to be out of chicago o hare or jfk. so don't complain. be true to your region. just focus on being first in your continent, not the world. when one day you have the ability to fly to atlanta or o hare, you'll finally be glad of the travellers through those airports and those who fly your airline!

General Chat / Another kind of 0.5 frequency abuse?

i'm having a hard time taking everything in too. it'd be easier to see just the diagrams and examples alone right in front of me to pick the best one. i'm afraid this is going over my head. lol. me r stupid..

it uses half the blocktime because it flies HALF the distance. thats not gaining time. what you are trying to say is that you can diversify your destinations twofold with a given plane. that has nothing to do with gaining time or capacity. its about diversitfying your route network, which pays off well if you evade competition. its legitimate, it should be fixed but only hardcoded and properly.
dont accuse players of exploiting, there are clear rules about limits of this, and all players can play by these rules. 0.5 rules are also realistic, since they represent less than daily connections, which are about as common as sliced bread.

well actually it is gaining time. 1 is flying 4 hours, but .5 is flying 2 hours. per day. that's gaining 2 hours because you're pretending the flight ends and the plane is magically sent back to the origin airport for a new route.

now this isn't a solution, but i was saying before that you could tempararily charge an "overnight fee" for half routes. or you could charge fuel and staff costs, along with deducting one hour for every .5 route as a "fee" for a phantom return. rather than keeping it the way it is now.

or we can just keep things the way they are, have that one bit of innacuracy, and just all play the game with this loophole on "even" ground. i still think what i was saying earlier would be good but maybe i was saying it wrong or something. and i can't draw a picture because im not that creative as LOT 737.

no im not suggesting 48 .5's. but i'm not exactly understanding your argument there. i wish some other people would get in on this. i'd like to see what other people besides the two of us see our argument as. and who's more on the right. and someone without an opinion would be great. lol.

sorry yes i screwed that up as you're right as far as you could only fly a-b. and you'd need another plane to fly a-c if you wanted to fly that. which is how i think it should be. because if you do .5 .5 .5 .5 .5 etc whatever, you're saying you go

a-b

b-a, a-c

c-a, a-b

but there's no reason you couldn't have gone a-b and b-a at the same time. so then if you say .5, you're talking about

a-b
b-a
a-c
c-a
a-b
etc

that's how it should be meant. not im going to put .5 on two routes, and it's going to only go one way the first day i put it, then it can go two ways the next time. like i was saying before though the only way it could do that is if a-b was 14 hrs, but a-c was only 7 hours. so you could start with the a-b because it'd be all it could do that day because it couldnt make it back. so the following is a-b = 14hrs, a-c = 7hrs

a-b (14hrs...can't make it back on 10 hrs)
b-a, a-c (21hrs)
c-a, a-b (21 hrs)
b-a, a-c (21 hrs)
c-a, a-b (21 hrs)
and so on.

but what does everyone think on the overnight fees?
