in Malaysia, we pay MYR1.92 = USD6.72 per litre, so expensive for an oil exporter country

That's impossible 6.72 USD is a lot. U probably mean 0.6 and btw i checked a currency converter 1.92 Ringgits are equivalent to 0.59USD.
In the Philippines were 23% is taxed on gasoline it costs about P51 and with the current rate it's about 1.17 USD.
Tax on diesel amount only to 15% which costs PHP43.44 equivalent to more or less a Dollar.

For best Diesel prices go to Singapore where it's only taxed at 5%.

Northern Indiana $3.99 a gallon for regular, watered down, crap fuel.  Diesel is nearly $4.75 a gallon.

This discussion has been argued many times one every forum I visit.  There is no way to compare the US prices to Europe prices...Two completely different worlds,

A...Most of us have NO public transportation what so ever...cant just hop a bus or train to go across town.
B...Things are very spread out, a lot of us where I'm at have at least a 15-20 mile drive to work every day.
C...Wages are completely different.  Europe's high prices have an impact on the normal worker just as much as they do here even though there is nearly a $4 difference per gallon.

I know from what I'm going through at the moment, having an old 1/2 ton truck for work.  The higher the price of gas goes the more it hurts.  Currently...about $140 a week...JUST for work...I get about 15-20 miles to the gallon depending on length of the drive (highway or stop and go through town) and if loaded, or pulling a trailer.  People say to get a little car, not everyone has the option...If I didn't have a truck I wouldn't have a job.  4 years ago it only took about $45 MAX a week.  My wage has barely moved since then, maybe a whole $20 more per week...but gas now costs me nearly $150 a week on average.  Thats a little over 1/2 my pay check after taxes were taken out :x  With the cost of everything going up more and more how are we expected to make it.  When driving is your only option for work the price at the pump pretty much just says bend over :?

Some places have it made...Spending 3 weeks in Taiwan I was amazed by the public transportation...we were able to get to anywhere from anywhere by either a bus or train.  Only rode in a car 3 times in those weeks...two times was to and from the airport...and then a 3 day trip clear around the island.  Mopeds got us around Chung-Li most of the time.

Would never see that kind of transportation system here, not even in the big cities I've been too, like Chicago.  Some of it exists...but its not really effective from what I've seen  :?

You are right. Places are different. But if an American comes to Germany he has to pay the fuel price we have here - regardless of his wage

Little calculation:
My car uses 7 liters per 100kms (about 2 gallons per 60miles). I drive about 50,000kms a year. At EUR1.50 per liter it is EUR5,250 a year. Thats almost 3x monthly net (!) income. But I am in the position not to pay for the fuel as it is a company car :D Still a lot money!

LOL!  And I drive about 25,000 KM a year in my own truck!  ;)

And yes, I pay for the gas for it out of pocket.

I said roughly - today it is £1.279 for Petrol and £1.349 for Diesel

My dad is a regional sales mangager for Leica (he sells things like microscopes to hospitals), so he drives a lot - last year, he drove something like 40,000 miles, (something like 65,000 km) the company used to pay for it, however, now we have to pay for it and have a petrol allowance, which hasn't gone up since it came in 2 years ago, even though fuel has risen from 85p to £1.30, which seems stupid as it is just another debt ontop of increasing utilities bills and tax.
ho said aviation sites were sexist?

Not too far - about 20ft from my bed   I work from my home office but as a salesman I need to visit my customers which are up to 500kms away from my house.

This is not experienced outside the US, because we have governments that are just a little bit socialist. (in denmark, just under 50%) They looks at the demands for everybody.

Actually the public transport system in Chicago is pretty effective for being drastically underfunded....   Government has nothing to do with in the US... What you are completely ignoring is the distances traveled and the size of the cities...   Is there reliable, effective transport from small towns to other small towns that doesn't include trips to a larger town, or being restricted to rail lines???   I live roughly 15 miles from the closest Greyhound Bus stop.  They have two buses per day.  One headed east and one headed west.   I live 50 miles from a commuter train stop and 75 miles from a long haul train stop.  The closest commerical service airport is 35 miles, but service there is limited.  Now my office is 15 miles from my home and I live in a town of 1500 people.  There is simply no economical way to provide a service, whether it be buses, vans, sedans, etc. in these situations..  In the US, there are THOUSANDS of situations like this...
