New, long world (50+ years)

After having talked to some of you in the discord chat, I have decided to go forward and create a new, long world.
We are some players who enjoy taking an airline and grow it slowly to create a sense of natural progression and history. In the last long world I have been part of, I made sure to document the fleet my airline had. I know some other airlines make news every once in a while.

The point of this post is to promote this world - it is always more fun with more people playing! The world will be as follows:
  • Created on Friday, 9th of August in European evening. 24 hours to set up your airline before world clock starts.
  • Run from 60s until today
  • Full world, generous starting aircraft selection
  • Many/unlimited number of bases
  • Frequent pruning of bankrupt and inactive airlines to reduce congestion
  • New flight block calculation for realistic flight times
  • Beta version of the new maintenance mechanics
  • No password

Any suggestions and requests are very welcome! I'll be happy to welcome you in this world

Looks like this is going to be an awesome world :)

I will probably join once the current world I'm playing in comes to an end. Or I might start a small airline in yours, and only really work on expanding it several years down the line.

Long worlds are my favorite!

The current way the game works is supposing instant acceleration to top speed (poor passengers) and instant deceleration at the gate (poor cleanup crew).
The new way (which will be implemented "shortly") is to have aircraft acceleration and deceleration more moderate, but most importantly: holdting times depending on airport size. A flight London-Amsterdam might become 50% longer in time now!

Ha ha funny reply, to imagine those poor passengers.

The updates sound good and logical!
What with this as well as the new maintenance system, we will have to adapt our tactics a bit, which is a positive thing.

For short haul flights, I think the differences will be easy enough to manage. For the jumbo jets on long distances, I think it may become somewhat more complicated to handle, but we shall see...

The biggest difference will be on the short-haul flights. You won't be able to do nearly as many. On the other hand, long haul flying won't be affected that much, since most of the time will be spent at cruise speed anyway. You will see a slight increase in flight time, but it's maybe 5-10%

Things have quieted down a fair bit in my in-world forum, but initially other players were fairly active in posting too. I find it's more fun when players post some, makes the world feel more alive, and keeps the players more involved.

I plan to join your new world, it's starting today, right?

P.S. thanks for your earlier explanations (above) on the new flight times, I forgot to acknowledge your response.

The world is now open! Please note the following differences, as this world has new features: New maintenance formula and new route block time calculation.

Please note that routes will take longer time now, since take-off, climb, approach and landings are included in the calculations now. Bigger airports will have more holding time than smaller airports. Routes created before this change will keep their block time until updated.

Maintenance is no longer automatic. You have to manually schedule maintenance for your aircraft. Each fleet has a maintenance need which you must schedule. It is not necessary to schedule maintenance for each aircraft individually, as long as you fulfill the need (see more under 'Aircraft Maintenance').
