Upon further research, neither the ATR-74 or the Airbus 319 is available in 1980.  The Boeing 737 is.  I am opened to suggestions for aircraft and a starting date for this world.

I would be interested in joining this world.

My suggestion is that we use the Boeing 737 or maby a smaller aircraft if possible.

The 737-200 Advanced is a great aircraft for the 80's; fast, decent amount of pax, decent turn around times, and the range is surprisingly good. Fuel burn kinda sucks...

My suggestion is the Douglas DC-9-50. It has a good capacity and the range is decent but not over 2300nm. The fuel burn is slightly higher than the B732HGW, but the seat count is higher so it's an even trade.

Hmm.  I like it.  A very appropriate aircraft for the time.

I may or may not join, depending on my mood when the world opens :P

But may I suggest a non-mainstream aircraft - such as Dassault Mercure - so everybody doesn't fly around with Boeing, and only Boeing? That would make it a bit more realistic. This would also make the aircraft market a bit more varied. Try reducing the amount of aircraft a bit, so we don't get a running start, make it a bit harder ;)

Dassault Mercure:
Seats   150
Speed   499
Range   1,058
Fuel Usage   836

Look at the range on the Mercure. We would all have to start in Europe!

That's the only drawback, but hey, how many airports are in the proximity of Salt Lake City? Or Buenos Aires?

Anyway, you get my point of not wanting a mainstream aircraft, right? :)
