Unfortunately Ireland is the only country that gets to vote on the Treaty. There is an interesting video about it, but as with any internet publication, take it with a pinch of salt. Its heavily biased and may not include the whole truth.

We held our referendum yesterday, it could be a close call if the Treaty gets through here!

I hope it doesn't. Most people in this country don't really want to be part of the EU due to the end of strict border controls and losing the power to stop illegal immmigrants, and also, whilst a good thing now, mass immigration, i.e. after 10 countries joined the EU in 2004 and hundreds of thousands of eastern europeans flooded into western europe for employment. From this point of view, money was being taken out of our economy and sent back to theirs, they took up resources needed for low income citizens, like local authority housing, where the already overstretched system got even worse. The flipside of them taking up many low-paid jobs is that as a country, we could not force people living off benefits and who aren't even looking for employment into the job market, which is needed to lower the tax burden on the working people, especially as it was getting worse due to a rising dependency ratio through having an ageing population and the baby boomers from after WW2 heading for retirement. Things like this, which stem from the EU cause a chain reaction and prevent many other things from happening. The EU controls over food production have also stopped many farmers making most of their land so that they can benefit from rising food prices, plus it would lower prices again, which would be a good idea, however through the Common Agricultural Policy this cannot happen, be it through quotas, set aside... It is crazy.

46.6% Yes vs 53.4% No.

Nice margin there too. Ah well, back to the drawing board, our Politicians are saying we are going to be shunned by Europe. I cant wait for them to get the blame., all the major political parties came together to campaign for Yes, including the Unions and business groups. Shows they actually have little influence on the Irish people.

Nah, I couldn't care less who said what. I just looked at the abbreviated version of what the Treaty would do and made my mind up on that.

Actually while I don't mind the immigrants from Eastern Europe I really dislike the EU. IMO they're a bunch of children who are busy with fighting each other and making ridicoulus laws that don't benefit anyone. It would all be so much easier if the members would have seperate treaties with each other for dimanteling the inner European borders etc.

I wish the Germans could have voted on this treaty as well, but our whoa-so-democratic politicians think that everyone is going to turn into a nazi as soon as they allow the people to vote on important issues
