I strive to sell widebodies after a year or two, narrowbodies after 2 or 3.

It depends on your bases. Usually, users here replace aircraft after three years. The bigger bases you have, the longer time the aircraft will give profit (because of your higher income).

Remember that maintenance is calculated fleet wide.
Example:
If you have three 20-year old Cessnas, your maintenance will be extremely high (because of the high average fleet age), but if you have three 20-year old 747's, you maintenance will be roughly the same as with the Cessnas.

If you want to see your fleet age, click on 'Aircraft'. You will see the age in the box in the middle.

If you have any more questions, go on and ask :)

I thought the maintenance costs are calcuted using the value of your fleet combined with the average age. So wheter or not you have a 3 20-year old Cessna's or you have 3 brand new 747's, the costs for the brandnew 747's will be a hell of a lot higher than those for the 20-year old Cessna's. No?

You are correct, I tried to tell that in my example (seems like it didn't go well). The Cessna's increase the average age, increasing maintenance. Let me give you another Cessna-747-example:

You have this fleet:
10x 747-400, age 1
3x Cessna 208, age 20

It costs roughly the same as this fleet:
7x 747-400, age 1
3x 747-400, age 20
3x Cessna 208, age 1

Average age is the same for both fleet, value is almost the same (the older the plane, the lower the value), so the maintenance will be almost the same. Example two is a little bit cheaper due to the thee 15-year old 747's loosing value.

But a brand new 747 might cost more than a 20-year old Cessna 208. Just note that the maintenance can get extremely high if your planes are very old. Currently I have 1.5 billion in maintenance fees with 389 7-year old planes.

Did it help? :)

It also depends on the game situation.  In my world (2208), there's almost no market for used planes.  Thus, I wind up scrapping most of them so the the total value of each plane is lost.  Since I'm also way out in front, I'm only rotating the fleet at four or five years and still doing just fine.

Do we still pay maintenance fees on A/C that are listed for sale?

Yes, you pay the maintenance until the aircraft is no longer yours. This includes leasing, you pay the maintenance while the plane is leased out (that's why it is usually economical viable to lease your long haul planes).

Hotswap was available in the Scenario World which just ended, it is still a bit buggy though.

When I replace routes manually, I can do 2-3 routes each minute :D

Well, in real life, airlines have to pay a certain amount concerning the maintenance costs to the lessor.
This is not implemented into the game, which is a pitty.

Well, in real life, airlines have to pay a certain amount concerning the maintenance costs to the lessor.

That depends on the type of lease. For most types leases today the airline is fully responsible for maintenance. There is usually a penalty for having the lessor do maintenance (if not done properly) when the plane is returned, and there is also a penalty for returning a plane before the end of a lease contract.

Would be great to see this implemented into the game! That's for sure.

There are alot of missunderstanding with the Planage.

Mostly it is usefull to replace plans after 3 years.
but if the only way for you to scrap your 3years old plans it would be better to use them much longer.
because you will lose alot of the plans value for nothing.
after 3 years  the plan have more then 90% of its original value.
as long as your fleet are not have bigger plans then 737 or a320 you can use them for 7 to 10 years cause the Maintenance Fees and the lose of the plane value can compensaed .  Yes your profits not looks not so much as you use a new airliner but the value of the plans not dropp from 90% to 0%.

Sometimes it can make sense to buy older and much more used plans.

i uesed to buy some older plans for 50% of there value and use them for some years. this works fine.
my calculation is buy 3 older or 1 new.  You can  more profit out of the 3 old for 4-5 years.
