That's no good, no airline should treat their pilots badly :(

Well, it's like this: If one airline decides to go the low-cost way, other airlines have to follow in order to still have passengers

Not necessarily, if you have a famous brand known for service then you don't have to do much to keep up with the LCC. Like say Singapore Airlines.

If they are transferring domestic flights to another brand, they lose the current strong brand they have. Who knows HOP? Nobody, but who knows Air France? Everybody!

If you fly Air France flights regular you know HOP! (The name is HOP! I am not shouting :) )
It started as a merger of all their regional airlines

But is the flight operated by HOP but under the name of Air France, or is it with different aircraft, different service, etc.?

HOP! is an airline like KLM Cityhopper is one. They got their own aircrafts and own livery, though I am not sure if all their flights is flown as HOP! or Air France. Could imagine it is flown as a Air France on some of the major routes, but as HOP! on the routes previously operated by the regional carriers as Brit Air.

But BritAir had the Air France livery with the 'operated by ...' decal. Just like most regional carriers in the US do for the big airlines.
