We won't be running out of fossil based fuels (and that includes crude oil) for the next 1000 years. We will merely use up all the easily accesable oil wells. The tar sands in Canada are estimated to contain as much crude oil as the entire middle east, but bringing it up is just much too expensive. Same goes for the arctic resevoires. The development will make alternative sources of energy more popular at some point.

How about the old main road from Gudvangen to Voss? Until 1990 it was the main road. Today it is a uni-directional road closed for big traffic. I mean, a 4 metre wide road for the main Oslo - Bergen connection? With 14 hairpin bends and a steepness of up to 25%, I think it did enter the "dangerous road" category ;)

Speaking of transport management, I just happened to stumble across a very nice game called Traffic Game. Besides its frequent crashes it is a wonderful game, better than Cities in Motion in some ways. Link:

But I just got addicted to SimCity again and I've made this lovely small city town on this lovely new map and I've built this Coal mine and I can't wait for Update 7 because there will be overpasses and tunnels and all that types of thingys and I really like my new city and I can name all the families that live there and watch stalk them all day while I make some money from the Coal mine and then the night comes and I will try to protect the city from thieves by removing the entrance to the city because I can't afford the police station yet and then I rebuild it again...
But, maybe I'll buy CiM 2 sooner or later. Most likely later.

Not really, but the view is great from 2000 ft. From Sorø/Ringsted you can easily see all the way from Funnen/The Great Belt bridge to Kastrup/The Øresund bridge. And with the current wind heading, that A319 flew right over EKRK.
PS: Everything is opposite when flying. Throttle controls altitude, attitude controls speed.

One needs to use trim all the time. As one instructor keeps telling us - Pilots shouldnt be doing anything at all, apart from chatting with the stewardesses! Keep it easy, tight controls are just a bother.
When you increase the throttle, you increase the airspeed over the wings, lifting the plane.
If you increase the attitude (Angle of attack) you increase drag, slowing the plane. But it doesnt fall out of the sky, because by increasing AofA you increase lift at the same time. Follow me?
Strictly speaking its not that black and white at all. You need to work with the controls - all the controls - all the time. Its really hard to start with. I was exhausted after my first flight of only 10 minutes. Yesterday was my 4th flight, 1:30 with steep turns and dives, and I managed to get airsick in the process :lol:

Yes, whenever somebody moves a bit in the cabin you need to retrim. Turbulence, turns, speed changes etc all require retrimming too. And the tight controls keep sneaking up on you. Before you know it, you are fighting the controls again.

Let go? No, you need one hand on the yoke at all times. And the other hand on the throttle/mixture column. However the instructors often ask us to remove our hands from the controls every once in a while to show us if we have trimmed the plane properly.
Yesterday was my 5th flight, and for the first time it all felt completely normal. Near perfect coordination between throttle and yoke, trimming as required etc. Even the stall exercises went pretty well. And after 1:40 in the air I made a practically perfect crosswind landing, all on my own.

Yeah, Roskilde is pretty much the airport for all aircraft not flying normal scheduled services (They go to Kastrup). But on a nice sunny day, the circuit is far more busy than Kastrup ever gets. It's pretty normal to have 5 or 6 planes in the circuit to land.

The wind can blow from 360 different degrees. Only two of those can give you a straight headwind or tailwind. So yes, crosswind is pretty normal. Today I flew solo landing circuits from runway 29. The wind was 300 degrees and 9 knots, so only 7 degrees off the runway centerline. Even so, you can certainly feel the crosswind component.

Rules state that when you fly IFR you must speak english. When flying IFR, you don't look outside, so you can't spot other planes. Therefore it is vital for safety that everybody can understand what the other planes in the vicinity are ordered to do.
Sometimes IFR training is performed as a VFR flight, only the student wears foggles and the instructor looks outside as during a normal VFR flight. Yesterday we decided to file it as an IFR flightplan, but I wasn't aware of the english requirement :lol: I got to do an ILS approach though, which was really cool 8)

A single phone can most certainly interfere with the systems. When the crew asks to turn off mobile phones, turn them off.

No I haven't, and I probably never will. And for good reasons too.
1. It is well inside Copenhagen CTR, and I will need permission to come inside that zone. It is just too bothersome calling them on radio and asking for permission, and I'd prefer to just fly around. Too many heavys and mediums occupy that frequency, and it is good airmanship not to disturb those more than necessary.
2. The rules for flying above a built-up area are as following: Maintain at least 1000 feet above the highest object within 600 meters of you, and be within glide distance of an unpopulated field so that you can crash and burn without bringing people on the ground in danger.
I have seen plenty of GA planes flying above Copenhagen, and they must be pretty awesome planes. I know for a fact that the PA-28-161 has an awesome glide ratio of 1:10 (According to Piper, more like 1:8 in reality). Thats a lot better than the Cessna 172, Piper Arrow, and most other GA planes! When it comes down to it, 1:10 isn't great at all. The highest obstacle in the center of Copenhagen is 561 feet. So that puts me at 1600 feet. Thats about 2.5 nm of gliding distance, or about 4.5 - 5 km. And thats without turning.

Yes, I noticed that as well. Passengers couldn't disembark though. To be honest, I'd rather be at 30.000 ft over the hurricane and waiting for it to blow by, than be stuck on the tarmac.
We had a few diversions at Roskilde as well. A couple of Sun Air Dornier 328JETs. They had to park the fire engines in front of them to prevent them from blowing away. The wind was also strong enough to allow the Pipers to take off with a runway distance of 0 meters. (Not that we tried).
