General Chat / Re: Question on the Revenue Model
« on: June 15, 2012, 11:03:11 pm »
The most profitable frequency (AFAIK) is 1, you can run more frequently on a route but it doesn't really make you any more money, it just adds to the fuel cost.

And honestly most of the long haul aircraft out there are twinjets now, the only case where 747s are being used massively are in cargo airlines. If cargo does get implemented into the game then I would argue more for fixing the maintenance model, because then larger aircraft would be much better for an airline.

I will say though that it'd be nice to include some sort of bonus for fleet commonality. Some sort of percentage reduction in the overall maintenance cost of your fleet, provided that a certain percentage of your fleet is one aircraft, and that you have a large number of that aircraft in service.

I owe the idea and referencing flag shadows to the Delta "Colors in Motion" livery, but drawing the stars and stripes on there was my own work..

Airline Branding Center / Airline Livery Assistance
« on: June 14, 2012, 10:03:49 pm »
As a prenote, I'm kinda making this thread to get some help with my own livery, but if anybody else that is trying to make their own livery or improve upon it wants to use it, I don't have any problem with that.

So basically I finally finished the preliminary study for what I want my airline Vanguard Airways' livery to look like, and while I'm mostly satisfied with it, I'd like some opinions on it.

For starters;

  • How does the livery look as it is? Originally I'd planned to use a stripe down along the windows, but I eventually settled for a bit of a more contemporary livery, more white than anything. (Also wanted to get away from my pattern of having the bottom of the aircraft in silver or bare metal lined with gold.)
  • Any suggestions as to how to make it look better? I know the stars aren't my best work so far, but that is probably going to be one of the things I come back around and change. Making the stripes flow like a flag was so much easier...
  • Any suggestions as to how to modernize it? I kinda made this as a late 70's/early 80's paint job, and one of my ideas for toning it down for more of a uniform look for general fleet aircraft is to go with a low-visibility kinda look like the military does. Instead of red substitute silver or grey, stuff like that.
I'm not really going to be able to start working on this again for a little while, but it would be great to get some feedback!

Airline Reports / [PW#2330] Vanguard Airways

Vanguard Airways (VGA)
Leaders in Exceptional Flight Service

Moving forward from the one year anniversary of operations in Houston, Texas, Vanguard Airways continues its push to compete with airlines worldwide. In one year Vanguard has gone from the smallest to the fourth largest airline in the world, transporting over 25,000 passengers daily with a fleet of 28 aircraft, the second largest in the world. Predominantly serving North America, Vanguard has over 80 destinations including flights to the Bahamas, Canada, Cuba, and Mexico.

Vanguard surpassed the mark of being worth over 1 billion within its first year, and looks to continue with this performance in our second year. Other objectives for our second year include further developing our operations in Orlando, FL- with possible connections to the entire Carribean- and beginning the replacement process of our Boeing 727-200 Advanced models.

Vanguard Airways Fleet

3x Boeing 727-200 Adv. (1 on order)
7x Boeing 737-200 Adv. HGW (3 on order)
8x Fairchild Hiller FH-227E
5x Fokker F28 Fellowship 6000 (1 on order)

Predominantly Vanguard currently operates into well developed and more international in nature airports. Despite our plans to eventually replace the Boeing 727-200 Adv., there are no competing aircraft out there at the moment, thus these plans will likely be shelved for a while. One has been ordered to begin service out of our hub in Orlando, FL.

Vanguard has a strong business relation with Boeing, being the launch customer of the Boeing 737-200 Advanced HGW model. This aircraft consists the majority of Vanguard's fleet due to its versatility and performance, and will likely see service through Vanguard's years.

8 Fairchild Hiller FH-227Es have been put into service to fly into smaller airports, and at the current time there are no plans to procure additional aircraft.

5 Fokker F28 Fellowship 6000s have been put into service, with an order for an additional unit soon to be fulfilled- predominantly used for smaller airports that the 737-200 is less suited for. The short range of the aircraft however has led to internal studies for the replacement of the aircraft.

I agree. Old people tend to give their business to established national carriers rather than newcomers such as Ryanair or FlyBe. Therefore AM should implement age difference, giving long-established airlines an advantage over newly established airlines.
Eh, either I've kept on replacing my aircraft with more efficient aircraft or there's somewhat of a similar system already in play, because I think I've noticed gaining profits (Slightly) on my routes after swapping in another aircraft..

21 years is a bit long. Already ten years is a long time, especially when a big airline has to renew its whole fleet every 2-3 years.

The aircraft is good enough, but my general opinion regarding starting aircraft is that a mainstream aircraft is always better than an Airbus/Boeing/Douglas, because people will probably continue building their fleet from that aircraft. So this game will probably have a lot more Airbuses than the typical AM game.

The start up money is not relevant when the planes are so big. You are not in risk of getting bankrupt on the first day.
Eh, I think you might have misread his first post (Starting aircraft is two 737-500s, not the A320s), but aside from that I agree with your points.

Personally I was kinda interested in this PW simply because it had a lower amount of slots and would probably be populated with some good players, so if we end up adding too many slots to it I think that'll kill my motivation for joining.. :P

I'd possibly be interested in this world, just need to do some reading on ARL to see what you're expecting out of it..

EDIT-
After reading through the last thread, I think I'll be interested.

How is the A330-200 better than the 767-200ER? It is a little cheaper but look at the fuel difference for only 3 more seats.

Maintenance (MX) costs ;) This is by far the biggest cost, and the cheaper you can get it, the lower the MX costs will be ;) Every single €-cent counts. And it should also be able to fly further as well :)

I would like to see the formula for MX, or your proof that the a330 is cheaper to maintain. The game is different then real life, and my guess is the game is basing it off amount of engines, and seats.
The game formula is based purely on aircraft cost and age... as the worth of the aircraft drops the age makes the aircraft more expensive to maintain.

Am I the only one getting the vibe that the whole motivation behind what he's suggesting is so that you get some sort of "prestige" for donating..  ???

Well, voting period has expired, congratulations to Shawa for receiving the most votes.

1: Shawa- 5 Votes
2: 1993matias- 4 Votes
3: bolli- 3 votes

Rather surprising that it came out that close in my opinion, would have thought there may have been some more varied votes.

Eh, main complaint that my friends have had (Must say that it also became a problem for myself further down the line) is that the lack of things like hotswapping along with some other issues just made the game feel more like a chore than anything else.. don't get me wrong, Airline Mogul is fun and all, but once you get beyond 100 flights the game starts to lose the fun factor and begins to wear down on you.

So I'd sorta have to say priority should be put towards implementing the sorta features that'll help sustain players instead of adding more exclusive features.. if you asked me private worlds already provide a sort of "VIP" haven for people if they wanted somewhere private to play.

Yea, all you have to do is stop all your flights to the airport, I think you have to return all of your gates (Not sure on this), and then under the "View Gates" tab there's the Close Base option.
