General Chat / Re: Attempting to calculate Flight Time to Block Time
« on: January 29, 2022, 06:48:23 pm »
Fair enough, I guess. There still has to be a formula behind it or the game wouldn't be able to calculate it.

However, to expand a bit further, the issue with using "Research Route" is that aircraft no longer show up there once they have been withdrawn from production in the world's calendar and this is an issue for long worlds.

As an example, I joined Private World #3563 which starts with 5x 737-200. However, it was 1989 when I joined and the 737-200 is withdrawn in 1987 in the game, so block times no longer showed up in the research - it was effectively impossible to research routes through any means other than creating them and seeing what happens. That world has another 30+ years of gameplay left (a full year of real-world time), and anyone who joins the rest of that time will be stuck with five aircraft they can't directly plan. I used the 737-300 as a proxy, but as more and more analogous aircraft are withdrawn, the issue will be harder to work around.

At the very least, can the game be adjusted to make it so any aircraft that exists in the world shows up in the Research Route function?

Realizing this has been dormant for a long time, is it possible to share the actual method for calculating this? I've always used a robust set of spreadsheets I developed for route planning that can make it possible to figure out block times for potential routes in one place without having to manually look up each desired destination airport - being able to update the formulas in such a spreadsheet would be extremely beneficial.

Bugs / Re: Aircraft Age Bug

I don't know what might be causing this, but I could reset your airline if you want, it might give you new planes. Please send a mail to :staff: for a reset :)

Appreciate the follow up, but I just decided to scrap my aircraft and take the cash/value hit.  An airline flying props around Norway probably shouldn't be flush with cash out of the gate anyhow.   :D

Bugs / Re: Aircraft Age Bug

I am experiencing the same bug - I just started an airline in PW #3014.A330 Era (I am Nordic Air System) and it seems to be treating my aircraft as though they are from the day the world started, not the day my airline started.  The 5x A330-300 I started with all had an age of 3.1 years immediately when I created my airline.  The game date when I joined was 2 Feb 1997 and the world starting year was 1994.

Can something be done to retroactively correct this?  I joined the world with the intention of either scrapping or selling five brand new A330-300 so I could buy smaller planes and create a smaller airline flying to smaller airports, but my airline takes a huge hit in value by starting with planes that are already undesirable to the other players in terms of age.

I've been away from AM, so I completely missed the formation of this realistic world!  I love these ones, so as always, I'm in!

I've joined as Aviakompaniya Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, based at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport.  I see there's already another carrier there, so it'll be stiff competition right off the bat!

I'm pleased to announce the formation of Aviakompaniya Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, based at Moscow's Domededovo International Airport.

Thanks for creating this!  I will join sometime in the near future, the realistic worlds are my favorite part of AM.

Can Czech Airways (myself) now also operate Air Europa (as AeroEuropa)??? Sorta of like Easyjet and Emirates.

Works for me, please change your airline name accordingly.  I'll update the first post.

I'm confused here.

I thought the objective here is to create a real airline, but I noticed that Ansett Australia has moved into Incheon International Airport. As Korean A(ir) I'm a bit confused because as far as I can tell, Incheon International Airport has two major real-life carriers: Korean and Asiana.

One of the reasons I entered this world is because it was a great opportunity to simulate the routes and fleet of a real airline and if Ansett Australian was mimicking Asiana, I would welcome the competition, especially because Korean and Asiana have different fleets and different routes both domestically and internationally.

This just doesn't seem to be the case I am hoping for some clarification.

Thanks,

 - Caleb

I'm aware of the problem and have contacted each of the offending airlines without any response.  I guess the question is what do people want me to do about it?  I can boot them out of the world or force them into a reset, but that's really the only recourse I have.

I'm open to suggestion.

I have joined as Air Al Saud and will be growing as an airline with all its bases in Saudi Arabia.

Hi All,

Would like to join as AirAsian (AirAsia). Can I include all AirAsia subsidiaries (AK, FD, QZ, PQ, D7, JW)?

Will probably start will AK and establish subsidiaries in Chronological order :)

Cheers

Eric

You're free to create all of the Air Asia brands/subsidiaries.  I'll update the list accordingly!

Can I do a combination? Because American and Alaska Airlines are pretty good business partners. May I? :) if Not then I choose American... but I would love to join this world.

I would recommend starting out with just AA, but it seems reasonable to eventually add AS as well in time if/when you outgrow AA.

Hi again, thank you for the reply.
I was thinking, since it seems like KLM don't have any focus cities, could I take Air Frances? (ofc only if no1 plays as Air France)

Makes sense to me, I've put you down for both.

Could I join as Egyptair? Would it be possible to extend as all Star Alliance members in Africa? 10 years is a bit long for Egyptair.

Seems reasonable for one person to cover EgyptAir / South African / Ethiopian.

That also reminds me - I do intend to create Star Alliance at some point and obviously all real-world members will be cleared to join.  Use of alliance slots should obviously be limited to those necessary for real operations (for example, United would probably want to use an Ansett slot for SYD-MEL rather than opening a focus city at SYD for that one route).  I assume someone will create SkyTeam and oneWorld at some point as well.

Sorry I have forgot, are we supposed to use a 737 on the routes they are used of can we use a different aircraft in the fleet? Like a 739, A321, F100

I think you can fly your aircraft on whichever routes you see fit - the idea is to create accurate routes and fleets, but not necessarily have the real aircraft on each individual route.  That would almost certainly make for very inefficient aircraft utilization.

Sounds great!  I assume you're just planning to do Lufthansa routes since we have other members planning to fly as SAS and Brussels Airlines?
