Bugs / Re: [W506] Airframe hours and cycles bug
« on: April 25, 2009, 06:34:12 am »
I don't think that's a bug. I think it's just the maintenance crew has fully repaired the idle aircraft. Unfortunately, right now AM seems to put to much emphasis on aircraft age rather than the actual physical condition of the aircraft as far as maintenance costs go. Perhaps a fix is in the works, but that's how it is for now.

Bugs / Re: unlogical routes bug
« on: April 25, 2009, 06:29:23 am »
I've gotten this to happen a few times. Basically if you have a plane going from one hub to a city, and start another route to that same city from a different hub, the plane for the route from the first hub is available to fly it. so basically, you'd have a plane flying a route that looks like this: ORD>DEN>PHX>DEN>ORD. Killing the ORD route would just have the plane deadhead to DEN and then it flies the DEN>PHX part as normal and deadheads back to ORD. So you may as well keep the ORD route and make at least some money off of it.

Game Strategy / Scrap vs sell aircraft
« on: April 20, 2009, 05:05:27 pm »
I tried searching for this topic, but wasn't able to find it.

At what point is it better to scrap an aircraft rather than try to sell it?

Game Strategy / Re: List of Replaceable Planes
« on: April 13, 2009, 06:05:11 pm »
I think you've got the Airbus planes confused. The A320 series are much smaller than the A310's which in turn are smaller than the A300's.  Other than that I think you've got a nice idea here. ;)
I don't care! This is just an EXAMPLE - not and actual replacement plan!

Please notice the wink in my post. It signifies that I was just kidding with you. Not every reply has to be serious you know.

Game Strategy / Re: The stupidity of Multifreq
« on: April 04, 2009, 05:09:35 pm »
I think you've got part of it as to why multi-freq's don't work right. Passengers do not have connecting flights, so the amount of passengers is actually less than the numbers indicate. One other thing that may help is the reduction in hubs that are allowed for our home regions along with a transfer system. Once AM passengers can have that connecting flight through ORD so they can get from IAD to MSP then there really won't be a need for airlines to have up to five hubs in their home region. So perhaps at that point the number of domestic hubs allowed could be limited somehow. Right now such a limit wouldn't work. We need a transfer system first.

General Chat / Changing aircraft that connect hubs
« on: March 30, 2009, 06:46:58 am »
I'm about to upgrade the aircraft that is on the route connecting two of my hubs. I'm wondering if it will let me close that route and reopen it or do I have to start a second route with the new plane first?

Oh, I see... so the answer is GREED.

The answer is not GREED,   the answer is Business!

Game Strategy / Re: FAQ

Thanks for the extra information. It certainly is helpful.

I do have one question though, if I'm building a terminal what's the incentive to move my flights to my owned gates? Say I have seven gates rented, and build a terminal which is five gates initially. Does the game let me keep all seven rented gates, or are five rented gates returned because I've built five gates? Either way makes sense, I'm just still a bit confused on how this works.

Game Strategy / Re: [W350] A good replacement for the Fokker F27-400
« on: March 27, 2009, 03:38:56 pm »
They're supposed to be working on somehow limiting plane production and runway size as you just suggested. Though there are some airports that don't have a lot of passenger traffic but have at least one long runway. Also i think that once they get the hub effect working and AM passengers can have connecting flights, we may see a reduction in major city hubs as someone could build a fortress hub in Cleveland for example and it would work because of all the passengers moving through the airport as well as to the airport.

yeah, if they're to small I don't bother with them. Though some medium size cities are quite profitable. I wouldn't use a Caravelle though. I don't like them. I'd use a 737  ;)

The only thing I don't like about the F28 is the rather short range. Then again, I'm using a single hub per region right now so distances tend to be farther with that strategy.

I've tried a few turboprops and have pretty much settled on the Convair 580 as it seems to have the best balance between speed, passenger load and range. The FH-227B is a good one for reaching destinations that are out of reach of the 580 without having to go to a jet. The 227B carries 56 people, but is slower than the 580 so it isn't able to do as many routes.

Game Strategy / Re: HELP...
« on: March 18, 2009, 07:02:24 pm »
If you're just getting started, it'll take a little while to dig yourself back out once you start a new route. As you get more routes and more planes the time it takes to recover is considerably less. Just be patient. As long as your routes are profitable you should be fine. The game just seems to move slow when you first start out. It'll get far more interesting soon enough.

Just a guess but it might be that the game allows to many of those types of aircraft. Once they get order staggering figured out and maybe increase the cost and length of production of the really big jets it might reduce their numbers. Order staggering might also help in reducing the frequency of people buying 30 planes and dumping them on the used market right away. Hopefully it won't take very long to figure out.
