Title: PW2180 (Sojourner Dream) FULL - New world to be created
Post by: wishfulanthony on December 09, 2011, 06:52:43 pm
I'm back again just in time for the Holidays, and an announcement to make: I think that having a big world as AiRevoLegacy (ARL) right now is not a smart idea for me since, although it is a private world, not a lot of members joined the world compared to the previous ones where I needed to expand twice to keep up with demand. Plus, the past few months have been busy for me, not having enough time and resources to focus on ARL. So, for this upcoming world, starting after New Year's, I have this proposal, with comparisons to ARL:

- You can have up to 10 total bases, with 2 international bases for you to choose (ARL had 20 total, 5 international)
- Less money that you will have (250,000 euros) for start up than ARL's 1,000,000 euros
- Less aircraft to begin with (2 Boeing 737-500s vs. 4 Airbus A320-200s)
- Two gates allocated to you for start up (vs. 3 in ARL)
- Start year will be later than ARL (1990 vs. 1989), and the end year will also be later (2011)
- (Updated) No password will be given, allowing more airlines to join in (I will provide adequate training guides for new players by request)
- Both civil aircraft and business jets will be available
- Opportunities for brokers to join in are most welcome -- I am looking for around two
- Room for expansion by request when needed
- Full world coverage

And oh, I might keep the number of slots to around 25 or 30, similar to my first two worlds, so that it will be intimate yet competitive. I am accepting reservations starting today, and I will announce the opening of the world at a later date. This time, it will not be a first-come, first-served reservation: it will be through some sort of lottery (if it is allowed), and should your airline be selected, I will keep you posted through this forum. Of course, questions, comments, concerns, and suggestions are always welcome.

Sign up below now and I will keep updating this as often as possible.

Well, for me it would be :P The smallest hub I've been at is Bole International. And growing an airline there went dead slow. Can't imagine what it would be on an airport half that size :P

You have to take into account that there are plenty of big airports nearer than 500 miles of Jersey. The biggest African airport is Johannesburg with ~20 million passengers, Heathrow has more than thrice that amount.

Oh man I'll be really rusty as I've not had much time for AM lately but now i have a solid 2 weeks to build the foundation of an airline, wich is what really counts imo. I'm really interested in not having a base in the U.S. Any suggestions? Or possibly, for a real challenge, honolulu.

How about the middle east? And not Dubai-middle east but some of the smaller airports like King Abdulaziz/Khaled. You'll have a peaceful and competitor-free life there ;) A good place to start after a sabbatical, if you'd ask me

Whoa, I'm getting so many suggestions and registrations... Good news indeed. I'll tell you these, though:

- Base your airline anywhere you want, no problem for me. Make sure that you can make your airline profitable quickly with the aircraft I'll give you so that you can race to first place.

- I haven't had any airline in any of my private worlds that started in Africa, so your chance of being selected may be higher than expected. Also, Middle East as a base is a good idea, especially with the developments seen in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

- Of course, I see some of the usual suspects joining in, and yes, I will treat them fairly as I should (way more than expected). However, the lottery would prove to be an interesting contest indeed.

So my plan would be to start the new world around the second week of January, with start of February being the latest. However, I have these questions in mind:

- Do you think the start up money is a good amount, or do you want it a bit more?
- Are you happy with my start up aircraft, or would you like to have a different one?
- Would you like me to expand my number of spaces from 25 or 30 to around 40, or is it a bit too much?
- Do you think 21 AM years is too long for any of our players in a private world?

Of course, as I mentioned from the start, comments, suggestions, and new ideas are always welcome.
Title: Re: Coming Soon: Brand New World, Fewer Slots Available

21 years is a bit long. Already ten years is a long time, especially when a big airline has to renew its whole fleet every 2-3 years.

The aircraft is good enough, but my general opinion regarding starting aircraft is that a mainstream aircraft is always better than an Airbus/Boeing/Douglas, because people will probably continue building their fleet from that aircraft. So this game will probably have a lot more Airbuses than the typical AM game.

The start up money is not relevant when the planes are so big. You are not in risk of getting bankrupt on the first day.

Eh, I think you might have misread his first post (Starting aircraft is two 737-500s, not the A320s), but aside from that I agree with your points.

Personally I was kinda interested in this PW simply because it had a lower amount of slots and would probably be populated with some good players, so if we end up adding too many slots to it I think that'll kill my motivation for joining.. :P

[danio] my world will start in about a week's time, and I might start it off with a lottery of around 20 airlines so that they can have guaranteed spots. I might allocate some more to newcomers and good friends on a first come, first serve basis too.
Title: Re: Coming Soon: Brand New World, Fewer Slots Available

Just want to make a bump here to announce that in 12 days, my old world will end, in which by that time, you will get to join my upcoming world. So far, the number is pretty low to hold a lottery; as a result, a few changes will be made, including:

- First come, first serve entry
- Maximum slots will be set at 25 (unless more airlines are able to join in)
- Three Boeing 737-500s to be given instead of just two (final choice to be made by January 6)
- Start up money to be increased from 250,000 to 350,000

The rest will remain the same. The main issues remaining are:

- Brokers - I would like to have about two in my world
- Password - do I need to make it really private or would you like more airlines to join in during the game?

I would like it without, but then you should be prepared that some noobs might join. But that just makes it a lot funnnier, then someone will finally buy those 5-year old planes

As a noob, I was considering joining a Private World in order to gain experience and see how they work.
I wonder if there is a PW where noobs would be welcome (clearly not this one)?
I also wonder at what point does a noob stop being a noob and become a 'big-boy', and worthy of mixing with the other experts that presumably were born as experts and never had to go through the tiresome learning process of being a noob?

Good points about the password question. I have activated a password in my previous world to control the number of members to join my world, which of course meant a more private feel, resulting in better competition. However, with the maximum number set at 80 (due to demand from previous worlds), I have experienced an oversupply of slots, underutilizing my world's capability to thrive and succeed.

In comparison to public worlds where no passwords are given, airlines who join in who may be unfamiliar with the ground rules may be confused on how to operate their airline that they may be far behind from the leaders, eventually losing interest from playing in such worlds. Using a password in my world would make me spend a few extra tokens, but it would give this world a more competitive edge; should I not use a password, there would be so many airlines joining in that would result in two scenarios:

- High demand versus limited supply: in two of my previous worlds, I needed to expand twice to accommodate more airlines, costing me more tokens.

- Dropping activity levels. If an airline (especially those new to the game) will find my rules and the system confusing, chances are the airline could lose interest from operating well in a private world.

With that in mind, I have two suggestions:

- Password-activated: up to 60 airlines
- No password: up to 40 airlines

Which do you think would be a better idea?

Happy New Year to all, and you still have time to sign up for my upcoming world. So far, the debate on whether to have a password on my new world is split, and I'm still considering opening my world to other new airlines (eventually with no password needed). However, to make that happen, I will need to write down my own tips and tricks in a set of documents so that you will know what to do and expect for my upcoming world.

If you look at the world called 'Doing it Big' (2169), there is no password. It is already filling up quite nicely, and many airlines keep active even after one real year. I can recommend a world without password if you want many players, but if you want an exclusive world I understand your choice of password.
Title: Re: Coming Soon: Brand New World, Fewer Slots Available
Post by: wishfulanthony on January 02, 2012, 11:01:24 am
I've considered a no password option, Matias, since I've done that before with a previous world, yet the side effect is that I needed to expand twice to keep up with demand, resulting in spending more tokens than usual. In your opinion, how many airlines are you comfortable competing against in a private world with no password?

Since you opened up that option, I would like to announce that my world will be password free as well. Let's see how far this goes... (a free for all, perhaps)
Title: Re: [Update] Coming Soon: New, Password-Free World
Post by: 1993matias on January 02, 2012, 11:11:52 am
The more slots you have open, the more active players you will end having. But if you add 20 slots after three years, those airlines joining then will be active for longer than the other airlines.

I am tapping your suggestion, and I will implement it. I have time in my hands to make that decision in time for the opening. So what about no password, 50 to 60 airline spots?

I am pleased to announce that starting today, you can join my new world, PW2180, called Sojourner Dream. I chose the name because many of us players here are airline travelers, in which we have our own dream destinations. This is the first world in which I have modified some of the original proposals I made from the time I made my first announcement, including:

- 750,000 euro start up money (up by more than 2x the original amount of 350,000)
- Reduced number of overall bases to 15 to make the game more competitive (yet I kept the 5 foreign bases as planned)
- You'll now get three B737-500s instead of two, and you'll have two gates to begin with
- Finally, with considerable thinking, I've made the world password-free, with maximum of 60 players

To sign up and start playing, click here (http://airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/world_info.php?wid=2180). In the process, I will set up the forums to make your experience seamless and enjoyable. And again, if you have any questions, please ask them here, not on the private world forum.

Quite weak airlines here... I am #3 in DOP, and my home base has most flights of all airports! I do also have most passengers and biggest fleet. That isn't really impressing unless I tell you that my biggest airport is no more than 2 mill passengers!

PW2180 News Brief:

- Sojourner Dream is nearly full, with around 70% of all slots taken. So if you're still interested in joining my world with three Boeing 737-500s, two gates, 750,000 euros startup money, and an opportunity to operate to anywhere in the world, join here (http://www.airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/view_world.php?wid=2180) and work your way to the top!

- This world still wants to get at least two brokers to provide competitive deals for large aircraft orders and deals on the biggest aircraft. If you're interested in becoming one, PM me here or on Airline Mogul and I will negotiate with Stephen to accept you as an official broker.

- Three alliances now exist in this world, and so are unique airlines that operate from many continents, and more aircraft being ordered and more routes being opened in a daily basis. However, there are no airlines based in South America and Australia, so if you're interested in contributing to the world development, join us using the link above.

- As this world is about to get full, I will open a discussion on how many spots I'll add to this world if demand is ripe. Stay tuned for the latest developments.

- Sojourner Dream has ten slots left for our players. If you're interested in joining a competitive world without the need of a password, along with joining an alliance and learning how to work with a broker, click on the "Sojourner Dream" link on my signature.

- I am proposing to have a blog specifically made for this world. If you have any ideas on what you want to see on that blog, including airline activity, route development, et. al., please PM me.

- With this world becoming full soon, I would like to ask how many more airlines you would like to see exist in my world so that I can get more tokens?

That's fine, mastafa. I've got college work to deal with, but I can manage a very successful world too. Trust me, the next world will operate in a similar format (no password), but there may be surprises. How early would you like me to announce the details for my next world?

PW2180 News Brief

- I am pleased to announce that Sojourner Dream only has one more spot left for grabs to join in this really competitive world, and after that, it will be full. This is the second private world I operated that is filled to capacity, with (nearly) all 60 spots taken. So, when the world is full, I will keep you updated on when an opening takes place, with how many slot/s available, and how you'll sign up.

- The long haul flights have already begun, with numerous airlines operating wide-bodied jets such as Boeing 767s and MD-11s, mostly Transatlantic. Soon, there will be more Transpacific flights in regular operation, as well as more intercontinental flights.

Wait a minute, danio: is it even possible to put an alliance name on the engines of a plane? I thought those are placed on the body of the aircraft (unless you tell me that real life alliances do put their names on the engines). Should that be the case, it would be really interesting to see that concept.

Haha no it's just special for this alliance because the body is the airline and the engines are the alliance. Actually I didn't like the alliance name on the body.... Hope you like it....

I don't like that idea either. Maybe you should just do a simple alliance livery on one of your aircraft and put your airline name with it, just like what those real world alliances have nowadays.

You can announce them as soon as you want but I might not be able to play from June-November because i am going back to my home country where we might not have net connection. Even if we do, the net is really unreliably slow...

[mastafa] Between June and November... My current world will end around September, so I might need to expand the number of slots to accommodate you in case you'll join in late.

PW2180 News Alert: this world is now officially FULL so if you want to join my world, keep up to date with openings as I may announce them at any day. Alternatively, of you want to have a spot in the world on a first-come, first-serve basis, leave a message either here on the thread or through PM and I will let you know when you can join in.

PW2180 News Alert: At least two spots will be opened up this week due to inactivity for nearly a month, and I don't reveal which airlines have been removed. If, for any reason, your airline may be inactive, please return to my world (link on my signature) to restart and grow your airline further.

This opening is a double-edged sword: interested airlines can join in, while those removed may need to sign back up again. So stay active or you'll be cut out.

PW2180 NEWS ALERT: As promised, I will free up slots from inactive airlines (who have been inactive for over a month in real life) so that other users interested in joining my world can sign up and play. Tonight, I have opened up three slots for anyone wanting to join in, and another news brief will come in a few days.

PW2180 News Brief:

- This world is again full thanks to three new airlines who signed up, and one of them has done an exemplary job of expanding his airline from the very start. With that progress, it seems this world is becoming more competitive than ever for lucrative routes, especially in the Asian and North American regions where route expansion continues to be the norm.

- Another round of inactive airline removals will be implemented soon, with a possibility of up to nine slots will be opened up by the end of the month. Again, I will keep you informed when those slots will be opened, and should you want to sign up, do so by the time I announce the openings - the earliest could be by next week. Alternatively, you can sign up below or PM me on a first-come, first-served basis. Stay tuned.

PW2180 News Brief

- Three more spots are now open for interested airlines who want to join my world as result of removing inactive airlines. If you're interested, join using the "Sojourner Dream" link below.

- With five alliances now in full force, as well as over 45 active airlines, this world will become even more competitive as the years go by. It may be approaching its fourth virtual year, but it keeps on evolving with even more routes, greater aircraft choices, and fare competition.

- I may be interested in opening another private world that will prove to be more competitive than the one I have now as my early birthday present to you. You may suggest below on what you want me to have in my upcoming world, but, here are the initial stats:

     - up to 20 players
     - one aircraft
     - one gate
     - small start up money
     - more limited airport and continent choices

If anyone is up for it, or if you have any questions or suggestions, chime in below.

Eeeuuhhm... an ERJ-190/195 I think. I like these aircraft. Maybe a modern world......

For that to happen, that means the world would be as short as 5 years old total... But, I'll consider that length as a factor to deciding what the new mini-world would be like. I mean, ERJs as a start would be a great thing, but, I might also put in other ideas as well.
