Hi All,

Last new post for today: I promise. :D

I wonder...when do you guys decide to create another base?  At first, I thought I would just fill up everything I could at my homebase, but I see some other players who have expanded, who have hardly filled their bases and yet are doing quite well.

Thoughts?

I expand as soon as I get a decent profit out of a base because doing multiple bases dramatically increases your profit due to gate usage among other things...

Cool.  Maybe with a DOC of 1 000 000?  I'm at about 3 000 000 now...

DOC of 1 000 000 is not really good, but maybe 5 000 000 is good enough. For my last few airlines, i create a base when i have around 25 000 000 or 30 000 000 profit first or 30 gates used.

Yeah that would make sense.  Makes buying the better planes a lot easier with that kind of cash coming in.  I'm at just under 3.5 mil now and ordered my first boeing. :D

I think that 4-5 mil per month would be a great target.  Maybe even at 8 per month would be ideal as I'm loving the fokkers and those cost just under 8 mil a piece...

Thanks for the input!

I've been playing for 4 years in game... that's... 4x12=48 days. And my DOP is around 70,000,000. The time when I create another base is when I have got saturated profit, from a place.

Giving an example. Shanghai Pudong, I have routes to Japan major cities, China major cities, South Korea, Taiwan ... and a few of Europes. I think that's enough for me. So I started Beijing. I think flights that are going to smalllll places are not so profitable, like going to Altay, Aksu... etc

Of course, you can play much more in Large cities (300,000 or 350,000) than medium/small cities.
It's you own choice.

One thing that you have to consider when building a new base is the increased maintenance costs (the technical staff) for extra bases. I can't recall the exact figures, but there is an increase per extra base. This could become very costly if you have heaps of bases.

I prefer what I call the "Shock Doctrine" approach to bases.  Wait until I can afford a big aircraft order than hit a base with a bunch of flights at once.  That way you build your base while driving down your competitor's profits, while being big enough that you are a credible threat.

Actually, I went mainly with the smaller flights to smaller cities approach.  Many cities have low competition and while demand is low, so is the supply.  The bigger cities have the best planes on them and it's tough to compete with them at this time.

I hope to utilize 5 gates at my second base so I can get a terminal going to help offset some costs.  I planned this out by saving, ordering a few planes to run on the new base and so I in effect used a *mini shock doctrine* of sorts.  I think some of my competitors might have noticed this last night...but the best is yet to come when a few of my bigger planes start arriving. :D

Terminals don't make sense as a new airline.  They're simply too expensive up front and the recovery time is like 2 game years or so....

I only build terminals when i can't rent gates anymore.

Apart from when you run out of gates, terminals are often worthwhile if you have more money than you can spend on planes. They decrease costs, and can save you money in the long run. However, it is usually more profitable to spend your money on planes (if you have the time to put them on routes) and just pay a little extra in fees.

However, holding as many gates as possible in an airport means there will be less competition

I have just started playing AM. I decided for my first world to go into a public world.  For my first base, I may or may not have made the mistake of flying out of Long Beach/Daugherty Field  (LGB) as my first base. I grew it up to about 45 flights with about 40 destinations. I had a DOC of about 450K. I then just decided to open a base at the nearby Ontario International (ONT). I used my current gates at other airports to create routes from ONT and I bumped up my DOC another 120K with the new ONT base. ONT now has 25 routes from me. I have no idea if I may have gone too quick on the new base. I figured since 60 x 100,000, It would be 6,000,000 and easily affordable. Did I do the right decision????????????????????????????????
