Mileage guestimations

I am having trouble guestimating the amount of miles left on an airplane.  I have a Ilyushin Il-18D that has 8 hours left.  I have used the 9.27 hours on a flight of 3231 miles and 6.79 hours on a flight of 2325 miles.  This comes out to about 348 and 342 miles an hour.  matching up with what the aircraft details state.  So in doing simple math I should expect to get a route of at least 2400-2500 miles (7.5 hrs left * 330 = 2475 this is lowbal) But I have purchased gates of 1841 and 1647 miles but it states I don't have an available aircraft.  So my question is why and how would I know before throwing down money on a gate and marketing fees?

Quick answer: you can still do a round-trip of up to 1293mi. Better make that 1292, to be on the safe side.

1st route (half frequency): ( 3,321 mi / 365 ) + 0.42 = 9.27
2nd route (half frequency): (2,325 / 365 ) + 0.42 = 6.79.

You may notice how I'm adding "0.42" to both routes. That's the plane's turn time.

At this point the free time on the plane is 24 hrs - 9.27 - 6.79 = 7.93 (it's rounded down as some of those earlier times are sligtly more than shown with 2 decimals).

After two half-frequencies, the plane can only do full frequencies. For these, you have to subtract the turn-time twice, for each leg of a round-trip. So:

7.93 - (2 x 0.42) = 7.09 hrs

At a speed of 365 mph that means the plane can go 7.09 x 365 = 2587.85 mi. Divide it by two and you arrive at 1,293 miles.

Thank you the math all makes since but how did you know that after 2 half freq you could only do whole?  Is that in the manual or is it just something your supposed to pick up?

Well, it is in the manual ( http://airlinemogul.com/manual/index.php/Create_Route ) but is also something that, when you think about it, seems logical.

In AM you can only fly from or to your bases. Half-frequency means one-way trip one day, return on the next day. Say your base is X and you're flying to (non-bases) A, B and C. With two half frequencies and one full frequency your plane might be doing:

Day 1: A --> X --> C --> X --> B;
Day 2: B --> X --> C --> X --> A.

In the previous example, how would you leave the route to C at only half frequency? The plane would go there and then would "magically" have to be teleported back to X to do the next route.
