Hey guys, I'm looking at the moment for a replacement for my ATR's. I need something with a good range (at least 2250nm), fast, and between 75-130 seats. At the moment I'm just thinking 737-200/500, but I don't know.

What should I look at?

I take the B735. But I do not need >2,000nm range so this one works fine for me right now.

I think the A320 might be right up your alley......I hear it's got about 2800nm range depending on engine type, 150 seats, shouldn't cost too much.

But I think the A320 is around 70m compared to the 735's 40m. It's a much better deal unless you can generate 70m very quickly.

At the moment I'm going for the MD-87 (For some reason there are two different MD-87's, I mean the one with the longer range) as it has great range but it's not too big or too expensive.

MD8x rocks because of its price/seats/range ratio, however it has quite some delivery time

48 hours. Big deal. The 747 has a 240 hour delivery time. Needless to say, I'll never buy one unless I'm sitting on a huge pile of cash.

In real life my preference goes to the A320/A321 (mainly for the A321's safety record) but I don't know how those planes will play out because I have never seen them in game before.

Yeah, but compared to the 24h of the B735 it's quite a lot!

Their safety record doesn't matter, that much I can assure you.

Of course it doesn't matter. But I sure as hell feel safer on board an A320 than I do on board a 737. The 737 feels like it was built with tin cans.

All depends on the airline.

If the 737s or MD80s were only flown by those airlines that fly the A320 they would also have a better safety record!

The 737 had a design flaw (the rudder pump thingy would freeze when it experienced thermal shock). The MD80 as well (horizontal stabilizer mechanism wasn't "failsafe"). No such flaw has been found in the A320. Like I said, I do my good share of flying and I can feel the difference in experience between the A320 vs. the 737. Almost always, the A320 experience was better. Just as a disclosure: I'm not trying to turn this into a Boeing/Airbus battle. It's just that I've had better experiences on an A320 vs. a 737.

If you'd like to discuss safety records, perhaps we should adjourn to the other general chat forum...before the thread gets locked.

And don't get me started on McDonnell Douglas executives. They knowingly put an unairworthy and unsafe plane on the market (DC10). Thankfully, McDonnell Douglas is no longer in business. They should have gotten multiple life sentences.

Sure, from the comfort point of view the A320 wins hands down. And yes, it hasn't yet shown such grave design flaws. But as the AA A300B4 that came down shortly after 9/11 shows such things can happen to Airbus as well.

That might be a good idea...
