I've heard that X-Plane is much better than FS, but its difficult if Microsoft have the market captured pretty well.

Well, yes, for me its MUCH better than MSFS. And, to buy the FAA certified version, it costs more money to buy an FAA certified plane, BUT their own plane maker is used to make planes, and FAA ones, so its realistic. You can specify max weight, max fuel, thrust that the engines generate, etc... The graphics are not as goood as MSFS, but its close enough. And it has a big community so you can download  lots of realistic scenery. Overall its good.

It is just like Apple Mac vs Microsoft Windows, one of them is better but less popular.

Xplane: Better flight dynamics, smaller addon community or graphics, although newer versions are fixing graphics issue.

FS2004/FSX: Better graphics, huge addon community, not as good flight dynamics, although newer versions/some addon planes fix flight dynamics.

If you have an average computer, X-Plane is the better choice.

And if you're a real pilot I'd reccomend x-plane too.

Those takeoffs and landings are pretty amazing....every time I try to land a plane in a flightsim I crash it (unless autopilot is in control). I either crash short of the runway or fly too high and pass the runway. And when I come back around, I'm not linear with the runway. Oh, and half the time when I take off, I stall and crash. One time, I fell off the taxiway while taxiing out to the runway.

I have it.  I haven't gotten to mess with it much though.  But from what I've done so far, it is very nice.
