I was wondering if there is a difference between a hub, base, or focus city in this game? I notice that all three are used in literature describing the game, but I can't see to figure out how to make a hub or a focus city.

There is no hub yet, and base is your starting focus city.

To create additional focus cities, you need to rent 4 gates at the desired airport then click on the correct link and then pay up. (<- I believe this is in the manual/wiki)

Not exactly.

Base refers to the home base. It is a focus city, but a focus city is not neccessarily the home base. One could only have one home base, but more than one focus city. The home base dictates the home region one is in, while in some world, one could have a focus city outsude the home region. Therefore, although base is technically a focus city, focus city may not be the base. (ie. they are NOT the same thing...  at Stephen)

Before I do something stupid:

I know the rule that 1 foreign base = 2 domestic bases.

After you've established a foreign base, if you choose you close it do you still get to build 2 more domestic bases, or are you hosed?

Focus city and base are the same thing. It just depends what country you are in. In Ireland there is no such thing as a Focus City but there is such a thing as a base. The game was designed to have a differentiation between the two of those, but that was removed. When you go to the view gates page you have a link to a create base, the following page interchanges the terms create focus city and base.

You may want to talk to Will about the base = focus city thingy. Base = home base, and that is it. Although the words might have been used interchangably, that kind of usage is not quite correct.

As I have said, the differentiation of base and focus city is that base dictates the region / continent you are based in. If you create a foreign focus city, that is not a base. It is a focus city. It would not suddenly switch you over to basing in another continent. So, technically, in the backend, there is a differentiation, as in only the first focus city, which is created free, is a base.

I think I might only have 5 domestic focus cities, and then create one overseas somewhere.  Maybe in Europe...

being based in honduras, I need a second base badly to make money, but at 60x the gate cost it will cost me 6,000,000 to make a second base (plus 3 more gates there) I wont be able to afford that for 5 yrs at least game time (laughing) Having your home base be a small airport is a tough proposition I must say.

scott in philippines on longgggggggggg vacation

Hello. I am confused about this piece of text
..."Focus cites MUST be created on the same continent as your "home base""...
From Base-Creation menu.
How do airlines seem to create Foreign Bases, then?
