Okay,

I want to replace my Fairchild Hiller F-27Ms and my Fairchild Hiller FH-227Bs with a faster aircraft, but it still has to be affordable, able to travel up to 2,800 nm, and carry around the same number of passengers. Any ideas? Should I stick with the same planes? I don't know. Please help.

Thanks

I'll go with the Fairchild Hiller F-27F, great amount of passengers and it gives me 164k on three routes coming out of tehran.

737-200 Adv.  A bit less range, over twice as many pax, but also fairly expensive.

For a range in excess of 2700 nm and at least 40 PAX, and other than another Fairchild Hiller F-27something, things get pricier.

There's the Aviation Trader ATL-98 Carvair. 21.5 M€, 85 seats, range of 3450 nm (only 2522 usable for round trips).

If 21.5 M€ sounds like a lot, the next step gets worse. 36.6M for a Bristol 175 Britannia 100 (pax=92, rg=3642). A Lockheed Super Constellation L-1049E will set you back 43.6 M€ (pax=109, rg=3537).

The point here is that long range planes don't come very cheap. If you can have a few planes doing 1200 or less nm, you'll have much better options.

or you can go for a 737-200adv business jet for 13million. takes 20 passengers but gives a profit of about 160k each aircraft

Hey thanks you guys for your help. I was hoping to find a jet with the same capacities but it doesn't really exist. I think I'll just stick with these planes. I can't use 737's because its range is too low. The 737 business jet could be a possibility but only 20 passengers? Not enough! But maybe I'll try it out. I use my Fairchild Hiller F-27Ms and my Fairchild Hiller FH-227Bs on medium haul flights with an average to low potential. I've got 12 of them and was hoping to replace them with faster planes maybe, so that the 12 would turn into 7 or 8. Cut down aircraft numbers by replacing old a/c with newer and faster ones. Maybe I could also give the Bristol 175 Britannia 100 a try. Hey IranAir I see the Fairchild F-27F as tad bit inferior when compared to the F-27M, so I don't think I'm going to go for those. Still, mamnoon!  :)

Thanks Again!

If you don't need that much range, look out for the russians!

Ive run into the same problem. Hard to find a good long range craft a step up from the 227B. The next cheepest alternative is the 737/adv/BBJ.

Im kinda useing a mix, Before my fleet was mainly mix of different F-27s/227s. Now im switching those out with Super Caravelles & F-28s, reserving medium distance routes (2000+miles) to the 737s, sending them to larger cities, and the 227s to smaller ones. Im trying to build a jet fleet, even though planes like the Il-18, DC-7, and Lockheed connie are just fine.

If you really want to be economical, I'd wait for the 787 :D

Nah, that'd be spam.

I'd say if you're getting a ton of 227's and 27M's, I'd say go for the jets if you really need to speed and distance is greater than 200. Less than that, keep the Fairchilds - remember to reshuffle routes to clear 227's doing half-long, half-short hauls ;) Why jets? They're fast, and *usually* carry twice the pax of your 227's - the DC-9 is a great choice if you're looking for a higher-end jet. The 732adv is also "go-for-it-able", it's just slightly higher up the high end :P

If you need to save a bit more, try looking at some Russian jets :) Safety and maintenance isn't an issue here

Actually, I think that depends on where you base, you're obviously not going to get 160K if you base out of a city with less than 10 mil pax per year.

How are Soviet airliners unsafe? Only airliner that is known to be acutally unsafe is the Antonov AN-10, and that one had major structual issues at the wingbase (the cargo carrying sister, AN-12 was found to be ok though and not prone to this.) Like I said in that IL-76 thread, if you actually read most of the crash reports of these soviet airliners, it had nothing to do with how the plane was engineered or built, but rather of a 3rd party affecting it, such as missiles, mountains, other planes, the pilot inproperly flying the plane way past the limits that engineers inteded it to, shoddy maintinance. It is like the DC-10, it had gained a reputation for being a flying coffin, especially between the 70s and early 90s. Other than the early cargo door issue and UA 232, most of that had almost nothing to do with the plane itself.

As for r/l maint, I'm not sure, I know that the older frames are pretty pricy to fix because like almost all planes, as they age, they need more attention, and that there are not many spares avalible for newer frames due to low demand.
