Pitty we cant rent or lease out gates, it would be a major expension in the game
I would be renting out slots
Also creating a Hub where the amount of passengers flown in would be calculated with the flights flying
out so small airports can be profitable transfert into a connection centre.
cheers

No.

People would mass buy slots at the start of the round, then lease them out at stupid rates.

no no no no no!

Well you first have to fly before you can buy gates
then you need 5 gates to create a base and then build a terminal
after that it would be nice if you could lease out the extra gates youll not using
and create some extra income cq interest over the money invested.

Now new players have no change building there airline because there no gates left to buy or rent.
cheers

It would be worse if I could rent all the gates from an airport, say 350k each for LHR, then lease them back out for 100k per slot. I would buy the whole airport as quickly as I could.

So, no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no! This is NON-negotiable.

I feel sorry for you because you have to tell every one that it is a bad idea.

I like the idea of airlines leasing out gates, but it must be gates they own, not the ones they rent, so they have to build their own terminal if they would wish to do that. But I don't like hte idea of people hogging gates so they can sell them at higher values.

In theory this sounds ok, but then someone will build 500 gates at CDG or LHR and have 3 flights and try to rent the rest out.  He will in effect become a gate Czar.  Not so good.

Not to mention a whole lot more competition would rush in.

Good point, perhaps the best way to counter this is to have a cieling of how many gates they can build. Perhaps the 100-110 gate range. Otherwise, the only reasonable solution I see to the "gate shortage" is multiworlds (in the works according to admin) or lowering that maxium amount of gates that a airline is allowed to rent, but I have a feeling even if that is done, many would still complain.

Sorry... i don't quite get the limiting range part

Say for those airports with 300 gates, in theory, a minimum of 12 players could be basing there, and build terminals there. Realistically, a lot more than 12 airlines would be basing in those airports. Let's just say 12 though for argument sake, it would provide 1200 built gates to the market. Say the airlines use 40 gates each themselves, there would still be 720 built + 300 rented gates = 1020 gates available. Do we really want that many gates? Next thing you know, people will be screaming murder because the competition would be so fierce that the game would remain unplayable.

If we assume players renting 10~15 gates, or even only 4 gates before building terminals, it would be even worse. As a result, that may not be feasible.
