well, then if the DC-3 wont be the starter, what will it be? a Lockheed Lodestar or Electra?

the DC-3 really is the best choice. it is the plane that sooooo many real airlines started with in that time period...it just makes sense.

well, if the seats are the problem, a DC-2 is the solution, the max seat capacity is 14 :wink:

besides, if we were to start in 1955 as i sugested, the DC-3 would be small...the 707 and most other 1st gen. jets will be out (as well as the much larger prop-liners like the Connies and B377), efectively dwarfing the DC-3 in the way that a 767 dwarfs the ATR-72....

I don't know, I did read somewhere that the Lusiov Li-2 (Soviet built DC-3s) could fit up to 30 people inside. I would maybe imagine this is more in a military transport role, you know, transporting paratroopers and such, since I guess it would take a pretty stripped interior.

I have a feeling our starting craft is gonna be A) Ju-52, B) PZL P.44 or C) DC-2. For the early 50s, I guess we can sorta consider the DC-3 to be the  equivlant to what the 737 is today.

I know about the large number of DC-3s made. But I guess we'll have to leave historical events and similar things out for now and pretend they didn't happen it appears.

the first 707 flight happened in December 20, 1957, and the production started in 1958, the Comet was the first jet :wink:

In 1955 there weren't any jet airliners flying in commercial service.  

- The Comet had entered service in 1952 but had been grounded in 1954, not to re-enter service until 1958.
- The Tu-104 first flew in mid-1955, but didn't enter service until 1956.
- The Caravelle flew slightly before the Tu-104, but didn't enter service until after the Russian jet.
- The Boeing 367-80 flew in 1954, but it was simply a technology demonstrator (NOT the 707 prototype, as many have incorrectly stated).  
- The actual 707 prototype didn't fly until late 1957, and the 707 didn't enter service until 1958.
- The DC-8 didn't fly until 1958, and entered service in 1959.

I don't think a DC-3 ever held 32 people.  A C-47 might have in military configuration.

If you're going to go with maximum people a plane can carry then you have to make the 747-200 carry 1,122 people.

ya, and most of the time when it did, they exited the plane mid-flight....i doubt our pax. want to do that :lol:

and why is everyone hating on the prop-liners? have you never met one in person (static desplays and in museums dont count)? they are pure magic......yes, i love jets too, but man...we would be nowhere without the great radial engined airlines.....

radials were THE standard engine of the time period (50s-mid/early 60s)....jets were rare and something extreamly special to see, like how the JT8D's were THE standard powerplant of the 70s and 80s with the SSTs (Concorde and Tu-144) being the rare specialty.....

then again, i work at an airport and am in contact with piston powered planes constantly which gives me a great appriciation for props....

This is a poll for when we start out of 2 options. Definitely not a poll as to what we start with. The more you guys bug me (esp. the ones who pm me about it), the more likely you would get a DH.84 or DH.89 for starter :evil:

I say we start in 1960.  Reasons were already discussed as to why.  I am just agreeing with them.  I'd like to get my hands on 727s, DC9s and 707s sooner than later anyway... :-):-)
