If we are so few interested, a small 'allowed' area would be optimal. I think US and Canada right now, but the more players join, the larger area we can get

What area would be most interesting to have? EU, USA/Canada or both?

I'm interested in basing in America, but either or both is fine with me

I just think five players is a bit few in order to compete. I'd be more than happy to see some more players joining in! I recall one of the previous realistic worlds having 20 players, that was fun!

I'd like to hear you out, do you prefer EU or North America?

I am against making rules to limit starting areas to Europe or North America. It also limits the possibility of worldwide partnership (alliance). In addition, people will immediately opt for the largest airports in the region (i.e. O'Hare and Heathrow). But it would not be realistic should 5 airlines have a base at the same airport.

The starting plane should be a pair of small RJs with no more than 80 seats. Considering it is just 7 years of gameplay, plus being realistic, it is quite hard to grow the airline into a large size, say the current AA, or Emirates. Alternatively, it could be a larger plane (?150 seats) that is going out of production as soon as the starting year. That would render airlines impossible to buy a large number of the plane.

Anyway, if we must limit our starting areas to one continent, how about something new?
How about Greater China (PRC+ROC+HK+Macau+Mongolia)?

I understand your concern about the basing limit, but as we are five players it would be hard to make a competitive game. The more, the merrier! I'm sure people are fair enough to base at different airports.

The starting plane reflects a startup airline, as it is a re-fitted Convair 580. It is not a bad plane, so I don't understand your concern. The AM economy is very very fast, so it is possible to create an AA-like airline in a few years, even if it's in this world.

If we are going to limit the basing area, it might be good to select an already known area like North America and EU. But again, the more people who join, the more fun it will be!

I was thinking about America West, which started in 1983 with 3 737s and had ~70 planes by 1987.

Anyway, North America is larger. Therefore, I would prefer it if either the EU or NA must be chosen.

Well, it all depends on how you manage your airline. If you run by a low-cost airline model you will easily have 100+ aircraft in a couple of years. A legacy airline, on the other hand, will probably not be all the way yet, as it is expected to run bigger, more expensive aircraft on the same routes.
Are there other people wanting to join in on this discussion?

By low-cost, do you mean BoB? I have never been an active user for BoB, except for alcohol.

Anyway, time for business plan proposal.

Name:
Splash Airlines

Bases:
Seattle-Tacoma
Portland
Las Vegas
Anchorage
San Francisco
Honolulu

Fleet:
Boeing narrow-bodies

I'd be keen to join this world and give it a go.

I'd prefer EU if possible.

I'd be looking at trying a regional type airline, with the possibility of joining an alliance

I would prefer the EU also. It offers service to more countries (If it was NA, over 70% of your destinations would be American thinking from a regional perspective.)

My plan:

Name: Rob Ford Air (RFA)

Bases:
Dusseldorf, Munich, Frankfurt, Tegel, Hamburg, Zurich

Fleet: Anything made in North America, preferably Canadian.

It seems like the EU is more requested than the US and Canada. I think the world will be EU-centred then, but with the whole world available

Regardless of the starting area, the world will start on March 1st

World info:
Starting aircraft: 3x Super 580 (52 seats, 310kn, 2301 range)
Starting year: 2000
Game length: 5-7 years
Bases: 20 (one foreign only)
It will be  a full world - all airports, and all aircraft will be available.
The world will be created on March 1st. Be sure to join in!

I have a question. What is the starting cash amount?

The starting cash will be 1,000,000. This should be enough to get the first gates without going into debt. You will also get two gates at the starting airport
