Via Points

I keep looking at the Airport Maps and it would be nice to see route like London- Sydney, Now I know there isn't an aircrft with this range and so via points would be good this would mean an airline could have London-Dubai-Sydney etc
Im not sure how difficult this would be

You have to have a base at London and Sydney. For instance you can use on plane to go from ATL-LHR-DXB (for example only) when you don't actually have a base at LHR, but you have one at LHR and DXB.

I understand your suggestion, but I don't think it really works in this game, the way the rest of AM works. The way it is, mean you can have to play your bases and alliances well.
