Just to update you all about 2 slight changes I made to the focus city creation script:
  • You can only create focus cities on the continent in which you operate.
  • Each focus city must have atleast 4 gates before you can open one.
This should reduce the number of them slightly but also stop any mistakes!

You automatically can't after you decide your first one. It sucks, I have 7 now, 5 in the UK (IOM, EXT, ISC, LHR and STN), 1 in France (CDG) and 1 in Spain (BCN). If you look at my routemap, Northwest Europe is a big red smudge.
ho said aviation sites were sexist?

If its bad for you, its worse for me. Were you trying to hub Abidjan so you could do 1 stops to South America? If you were, I symapthise and understand.

You could never start a route from outside your continent.

Its to stop airlines taking over the world. So that some airlines actually have a chance.

Instead you put them all in a tiny tank called Europe and tell them to fight to the death? Most airlines are euro-based, whereas the are no Middle East or Africa Based Airlines, I wonder why?

Tell me this, Is there a reason why real world europe has more flights than Africa, airlines are bigger and earn more money. Same with the United States?

I support Steven here. This rule enforces two important things:

1. Reaslism, realism, realism

2. Prevents over-domination of one player

The latter point made by Danny is what I want to achieve. I remeber playing AE a few rounds ago when the likes of the "Chicken" came in with his hundreds of beeches and just destroyed all routes out of any airport. If you said anything bad on the forums about people they move in and take over at your main up. By being restricted to continents it prevents part of that, afterall if the No.1 is based in Europe they cant start routes from Africa to Asia etc giving other people a chance in the game.

Also I would say that in the not so distant future we may see the Airline Mogul market structure being used in real world, when the openskies agreement goes through for trans-atlantic flights then for US - Europe operations AM will be very much true to life.

But you cannot decide where you airline is based before you know where the competition is, therefore the point you make isn't relevant as it would support the idea that there are no airlines operating within africa or the middle east.

And, it seems that 2 different airlines can't compete on a route, because then one of them get loadfactor 100, and one get 0 or 7, or something under 10? This seems to me a bit unrealistic. :?

I think there is a mistake in the code for that. But check out the suggestions area, theres a discussion on this topic.
