Prototype is more like it. It is related to the Spanish Navy aircraft carrier and the A-4 Skyhawk. It is also related to the F-16 and F/A-18 programs.

Bump. Hard?

Well it was made to take off vertically. Made. In theory it didn't really work out, so they offered it as a conventional alternative to the F-16 or F-18 instead. The nose is from an A-4 Skyhawk, the intakes are from an F-4 Phantom. It is powered by a variant of the P&W F-100 fitted to F-16s and F-15s.
