Hi!

I though we needed some more 'intelligent' threads (hint at counting ;) ), so this is a great excuse for some thinking :D

A simple game:
I post a picture of a plane (or a part). You try to guess it. The first to guess right gets to post the next picture. Happy guessing! :D

No, I don't think so; it has (had) four engines, two on each wing. You can see the things sticking out of the leading edge.

The windows are also triangular, like on the Caravelle. Maybe it's from the 60's? Or even 70's?

SAAB 340?

No. It could only carry slight less than half the number of passengers of a SAAB 340.

Correct, designed in the late 50s, first flight in the early 60s.

The designer was a close friend with Marcel Dassualt, who played an important role in the Caravelle. They went to the same aviation school, and cooperated on a number of designs, which is why they share many similarities...
Mikhail Gurevich (co-founder of MiG) and Henry Coanda were also friends and schoolmates of the designer of this plane.

I got it! Weeee! It's the Potez 840! :D :D :D

Let's have a history class:

Henry Potez attended Supaero (the aviation school in france) in 1911 together with Henry Coanda and Raul Badin. In 1919 he founded Aviations Potez and bought Allesandro Azani in 1923. Potez built small passenger aircraft during the mid-war years, together with some reconnaissance biplanes.

In 1933 the French aviation industry was nationalized and Potez' factories were handed over to SNCASE. After World War II, Henry Potez re-established the company as Société des Avions et Moteurs Henry Potez. Again, it produced small passenger airplanes, but did never get its old reputation back. When the last aircraft failed to sell (Potez 840), he closed the company. Sud-Aviation bought the remains in 1967.

I'll have the next aircraft up soon. You want an easy one, or a hard one?

PS: I'll just leave the proof here :) Link

An experimental single-tail variant of the Dassault MD-315 Flamant, known as the MD-316 ;) It was Dassault's final piston powered aircraft...

Haha, it's an Antonov A-40.

At the start of the war the Russians wanted a way of getting tanks onto the battlefield quickly, so they came up with the tank/glider hybrid. However the vision of gracefully gliding a tank into war never quite happened and so the project was cancelled in 1942.

I hope this next picture isn't too hard, I fear I made it impossible... but kudos to whoever can guess it.

Good luck!
