Sorry sorry sorry :P. I totally forgot about this for some time :(

A more obvious hint: it never saw combat or anything because 1) it is a prototype and 2) it was a total failure. However, the lessons learned from this aircraft were later used to create one of the most iconic and powerful fighters of WWII.

Yup, you guessed it!

The Type 224 was designed by R. J. Mitchell, who had designed quite a number of racing aircraft to win the Schneider trophy. However, for some reason the Type 224 was a massive failure. Mitchell managed then to go on and design the Spitfire - a truly amazing aircraft. Hard to imagine, eh? :D
