Forum code: Airline Mogul - See my airline
World Info URL: http://www.airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/world_info.php?wid=1956
Airline ID: 33913
World ID: 1956
Current world year: 1972
Current bases: LHR, ATH
DOC: € 13,571,828

I know my DOC is not terribly high, but I have over $6 bil in my bank balance right now. I've pretty much expanded completely, with the exception of replacing my Fokkers with the Caravelles and making regional routes at ATH. If I go long haul, what AC should I use? I'm thinking 747-200s for incredibly high demand routes from LHR and Il-62s for the rest.

Don't do 747's. The routes won't give much because of the high fuel consumption, and the price will kill your maintenance. Although, you've reached a size where one or two wouldn't make harm - just make sure it is the fist thing you get rid of when you get in trouble.

Other than the Il-62, you can use the 707, Il-76, Tristar or Tupolev 114.
Out of those (and my memory of the data) I would choose the Tristar for the speed, Tu-114 for economics, Il-62 for the range and 707 for a good-for-all plane.

Please note that I am not in any 70's world, so I don't have access to exact data.

I hope this helped :)

Why aren't you flying to cities the other hub already has routes to? "Free" profits to be made there without spending extra on gates, as you already rented them.

I was planning on having both hubs fly to all European destinations, with Athens not flying to all of Iberia and none of Scandinavia while London doesn't fly to all the Balkans and none of Russia except for Moscow and St. Petersburg.

As you know im in that world, my DOC was 60million when i started doing long haul, and i have over 30 billion in the bank. Just make sure you replace a/c religously to avoid spiraling mx costs. I use a few ac, just to let you know, do a bit of research, dont give into the 707's as there others that are cheaper and can earn you more.
