TARDIS Travelways Up and Flying

A new airline took to the skies in early 1998 and looks to expand its presence across Europe. TARDIS Travelways was founded by ten doctors from England who saw the opportunity to take advantage of the booming global economy, increased desire to fly by business and holiday travelers, and the desire to create a quality airline. "TARDIS began with an idea in 1963 that was never fully realized until this year," commented Jon Pertwee, one of the founders of the airline. "It used to be that you would hop on a plane, take off, and not know where you would land. Sometimes you thought you were on the other side of the cosmos. But with TARDIS, we hope to make flying a more reliable and enjoyable experience."

An official unveiling of the TARDIS livery is still in the works. "It will be at Heathrow for sure. We hope the BBC will be there to cover it," mused Dr Pertwee. Heathrow serves as the initial hub for TARDIS, but expansion plans are in the works. The airline has rented office space in London, and is excited about using the Internet to offer bookings and bargains to its travelers. "We hope that an online presence will encourage people to take a look at our airline and eventually book with us."

Whether or not TARDIS is successful remains to be seen, but word on the street is spreading. "Once I heard a new airline was opening I thought I would give it a try. I like to think I have a sense of adventure," said Sarah Jane Smith, journalist and leisure traveler from South Croydon. "If they allow canines in the passenger cabin, that would be a plus." There has been no word yet from TARDIS offices as to the presence of dogs sitting in first class and getting a free snack.

TARDIS Announces new CEO

London - Having survived its start-up phase, TARDIS Travelways has announced new corporate leadership to guide the airline as it looks to expand its operations out of Heathrow and other cities around Europe. The airline announced on September 10th that Tom Baker would assume the role of CEO, and immediately gave him the corner office at the London headquarters.

Doctor Baker, a popular physician from England who made a name for himself in the early 80's by running a successful practice, takes the helm with optimism. "I have some experience in travel, and when my friends asked me to take on this role, I was more than happy to do so. I look forward to helping TARDIS becoming a name that passengers around the globe trust. I do not want TARDIS to remain a little British airline."

The airline Baker inherited already had bases in London and Madrid, and since his appointment, has seen its operations expand to Rome. No further expansion plans have been announced, but new focus cities are believed to be in the works. "At this moment, we plan to focus on increasing our exposure in cities where we already have operations. New planes, more gates, more routes. Those items are first on the agenda."

Doctor Baker refused further comment about the airline's future plans. Instead, he flashed a grin and ran off to an appointment, where was was rumored to be trying on new, colorful scarves.

TARDIS introduces two new liveries

London - TARDIS Travelways unveiled two new liveries on Airbus 319's which will be delivered at the end of 1998. Airline officials are undecided as to which of the two designs will appear on the majority of their fleet. "We'll leave that decision up to our passengers," commented Rose Tyler, customer relations specialist. "Do they prefer blue or black, that's the question."

TARDIS signs agreement with Airbus

Paris -- TARDIS Travelways announced today that they have inked a deal with Airbus Industrie which establishes a partnership between the two companies. Director of fleet operations, Dr. Patrick Troughton, was at TARDIS' base in Paris today to meet with executives from Airbus. "We have trended towards making the airline an Airbus friendly fleet, and this deal confirms that," said Troughton. "The American companies did have a lot to offer, but in the end, we went with one of our own. Our pilots seem to be pleased with this decision"

Troughton suggested that passengers will see more Airbus planes showing up on all routes while the airline phases out some of its previous aircraft. For shorter routes and for service to smaller airports, TARDIS has not given a firm word on which planes it is considering. Hints that a deal with ATR is coming have been seen, but British Aerospace still holds out hope that the London-based airline will consider buying British.

TARDIS announces Supersaver Fares

LONDON -- Has TARDIS Travelways gone mad? Maybe that's what some investors think, but passengers are loving the insanity. To celebrate Y2K, TARDIS has announced that it is introducing new Supersaver fares on some selected routes. Passengers can expect to save up to 100 Euros more than the normal fares offered by other airlines.

"It just came to me, why not do something to ring in the new year?" mused Doctor Tom Baker, CEO of the airline. "So I hopped on flight 1057 up to Inverness, enjoyed a wee nip, and insane fares is what I cam up with."

This reporter is still unsure if this was a stroke of genius by Dr Baker, a bad move for the airline, or a whiskey fueled whimsy. But it is good to know that even when on holiday, the CEO is checking up on his airline's status, as seen in this file photo.

Munich-- TARDIS Travelways CEO, Dr. Tom Baker, was all smiles today as he greeted airline staff members at Munich's Franz-Josef Strauß airport. The occasion was a happy one, as the boss was there to announce that TARDIS had reached the 1 million passenger milestone.

"This is a good day for the airline," commented Dr. Baker. "We begin 2001 as the world's most traveled airline. Of course, we continue to look for ways to keep attracting new passengers, and hope that expanding at our current bases and introducing some larger planes to the fleet will allow us to keep growing."

In mid-December 2000, TARDIS welcomed aboard passenger 1 million. At the beginning of January 2001, the airline was welcoming aboard 1,043,928 travelers each day.

I had the misfortune of taking one of your flights from Heathrow. Worst flying expeirence of my life. Motivated me to start my own airlines. I see empty seats in the Tardus horizon.

It would appear the previously mentioned problems continued to plague the Tardis Corporation. I see they not only are no longer the airline of choice in Public World #799, but they are nowhere to be found. Did they take everyone's $$$$ and simply jump into their empty airplanes and take off into the sunset?
