Alliances / leaving an alliance... existing route changes
« on: May 30, 2011, 04:07:17 pm »
Hello...  it's been quite some time since I've been in an alliance & the Wiki link isn't working to find my answers.  I'm in an alliance and slots are limited in large cities (fair enough... early bird gets the worm).   However when you open up a new base, other alliance members jump right into your base and dump capacity with larger aircraft than your own, which is a little frustrating.

Here a couple of questions that I can't remember answers:

- If I leave this alliance, I know I can keep my existing alliance routes, but can you still edit your routes to back to 100%?

- I remember in the past, that once you left an alliance, you could not adjust those existing routes, such as changing frequencies, but more so, you could not change your aircraft type.  So if you had a 5-7 year old, you could not change to a different aircraft type or new model.  Has that changed?

Any help with the questions above are appreciated.  Thanks

Bugs / Incorrect Map location - Liberal, KS
« on: April 12, 2010, 04:55:28 am »
The map location for Liberal, KS, USA (KLBL) is showing as located in Indonesia (I think).  Liberal is in the Southwest corner of Kansas.  I had opened a route from Denver to Liberal with a Dash 8 and the mileage calculated correctly, but the route map showed a nonstop from Denver to Asia.  I ended up not keeping the route as to not have it look to ridiculous, when my hub in Denver is just starting out.  Liberal is a small airport with just over 10,000 pax.

Thanks for your input.  I play AM to have fun.  If I get a top 5, cool, but if not, it's no biggie.  I'll definitely open up another base in the US after I get a foreign one.  I'll check out the BCN competition again and decide.   Appreciate it.

My apologies... first time I have posted one of these questions

Airline ID: 25083
World ID: 923
Current world year: 1993
Current bases: PHX (138 flights), DTW (187 flights)
DOC: € 21,865,843
Airline link: http://www.airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/show_airline.php?id=25083&wid=923

I have enough available aircraft to launch about 60 flights initially and may pick up a couple of ATR-72s off the market to hit those under 1m pax airports.

Thanks,

Game Strategy / European hub strategy / thoughts?
« on: October 28, 2009, 12:06:57 pm »
I am going to expand with a new base in European the private world I am in and I would like some input on the possible choices.  Based on the competition at the major European airports, the two best options are Barcelona (30.2m pax) and Brussels (18.5m pax).  While BCN has the higher pax count, it's location means it will take more aircraft with longer flights to reach some of the larger destinations in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and the British Isles.

Is it worth setting up in BRU for the shorter flights or does it make sense in the long run to set up in BCN and tap into the higher pax counts.  BRU doesn't have any airline bases, while BCN has one with a small amount of flights, although I do not know their future growth plans.

Thanks.

[+] Suggestions / Re: [++] Limit Aircraft Market postings
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:33:31 pm »
I have suggested a "hangar" in the past where you can store planes for later use (and wouldn't show up in aircraft selection page).
I love the hangar or desert storage option until you're ready to put the a/c in service.  I can't tell you how many times I wasn't paying attention and put an ATR instead of an Airbus on a route because they listed next to each other on my a/c selection.

You could also put in a 'storage' fee, which might make you think twice about putting in an order for 50+ a/c if you have to pay a premium to have them just sit around.  It might also limit the amount of a/c being dumped on the market.

If you change your Airline Code, does it cost you money?  I made two quick changes and my Bank Balance went from about 12m to just over 3m?  I didn't think it cost to make a change that area.

Does the 200m bonus still get paid out?  I wasn't sure if it still would with the PW money changes that went into effect last week.

Cheers.

Just joined as Freedom Air (WAS).   W645 (airline Sky!) is getting played out, looking forward to trying something smaller.

Happy 4th of July!

Game Strategy / dumping capacity
« on: June 28, 2009, 12:20:39 am »
What's the best way to counter somebody that is dumping capacity in a market?  Now I'm not talking about somebody doing for competitive or retaliatory reasons, but one that is just plain puzzling?  I'm in W645 and there's an airline ranked 141 out of 757.  So they're big, but not a mega airline.  They are doing crazy things like putting 5  Bombardier Q-400s (Dash 8-400) on a market like PHL-Harrisburg, 4 Q-400s from PHL-Altoona, in addition to four or five other airlines already hubbed in PHL.  There's also similar things where three 717s in a mid-size market.

So what's the best way to handle it?  I'm not going to dump multiple A-321s to kill their yield, because the return would be minimal at best.   So do I just suck it up, scratch my head, and move on?  Thanks

Game Strategy / 737-800 BBJ or A-319 ACJ on Trans-Atlantic routes
« on: May 24, 2009, 08:45:18 am »
I am thinking about starting my first Trans-Atlantic route from the  Eastern US, but don't have enough to consider the typical widebody a/c.   Is there a way you can tell if it would be profitable to operate a 737-800 BBJ or the A-319 ACJ on one of these routes?   I don't want to make the investment without knowing it's worth it.  Thanks.
