Bugs / Flight Numbering Bug
« on: July 17, 2009, 10:37:36 pm »Airline ID: 20058
Airline Name: Pacifica Air Lines
World: 452
The thing is, when I try to create a route with a flight number (PA04001), I get a message telling me that that flight number is already in use. It isn't. (I used Firefox's find function to search my View Routes page for anything with 04001 in it, and it found nothing.) Weird. However, if it's hopeful, I do have 2 similar flight numbers: 0401 and 4001.
Just for now, that route has PA04002 as its name.
And if anyone wants to know what overly complicated route numbering system I use, please feel free to ask. And yes, because I'm getting all worked up over a flight number, I am a control freak.
Thanks for reading!

« on: January 30, 2009, 12:25:02 am »I think this is the 10th or maybe 15th thread of "Whats your Favorite Airlie" or "Which airline is better" or "Which airline has better service" etc....
My favorite is United.
I'm quite surprised nobody has thought of this thread (either that, or the search feature, well, isn't [fill in any remotely positive term here]).
Anyway, Cathay Pacific, for me, will take this place. Virgin America isn't far behind, though (even if I only chose it for second due to it being based at SFO.)
Answer: The search feature is useless (10 or 15? Really? Wow. )

« on: January 22, 2009, 12:36:28 am »Las Vegas?
ive never seen a bus in Las Vegas (and LAX) during my tour to USA last year....
SF is hilly, in some areas, but I doubt those Enviro - 500 are serving in routes that serves hilly districts, am i rite? But in HK, you can find these Enviros on roads that are 20% gradient.
The only thing that I like about US buses is their "thingy" in front of the bumper that holds bikes. What I dislike most about US buses is their accessibility. All of them are (seemed to be) not low-platform bus. You'll have to climb 3 or more steps.....
Here you go... the Las Vegas Enviro 500.
The bike holder thing probably was put on the buses to placate bike advocates. (No offense to bikers.) Now, about the hilly districts, I was answering your comment about articulated buses not being suitable for hilly districts. (Apparently, they are.) And yes, I too absolutely hate having (mostly) high floor buses. Usually, they're not a problem, but when a senior citizen gets on, the bus is delayed. And when a wheelchair user wants to get on, oh, please. Take a look at this (It's a NYC MTA bus, but you'll get the point:)
It takes about a MINUTE for this thing to lower itself, raise itself, and reposition itself back into the stairwell. Thankfully, SF Muni has done SOMETHING right:
NO STAIRS ON ALL NEW BUSES PURCHASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, I take back my comment which attacked SF Muni for placing more emphasis on double deckers taking up less space instead of their increased capacity. Why? Take a look at this image (although it's a bit old.)

If you mean to say I'm not a true HKer, I didn't say I was true. By this standard, I am also Zimbabwean, Soviet, Martian, and a Republican conservative.
(But seriously, I was born in HK. So that counts me as 0.1% true Hong Kong. And if I got the wrong message, sorry.)
Ive forgotten what I wanted to say in my previous post, but anyway.....
(By your standard,im a brit, a canadian and perhaps a democratic supporter)
So, by your standard, you're a Republican conservative??? No........ (Then again, HK is the world's freest economy. Guess that works for you guys. ) Anyway, let's not get off topic.

« on: January 20, 2009, 05:35:21 pm »Gridlock? Congestion? Bedlam? No. (I'm not saying HK has that, it just has more traffic, which surprisingly to somebody who lives in North America, comprises of mostly buses, not cars )
I'm also not saying we haven't thought about it:
It's an Enviro 500! We were testing it for about a month, then had to return it to Las Vegas The main reason for considering this bus (as a replacement for the Neoplan on the Enviro's left) was less space taken in the garage. There was only a mention about the increased capacity. But still, this was the best thing SF has done in, well, a long time.
Edit:
However, I do agree that the articulated buses are not suitable for routes travelling in older areas of towns in Europe and hilly cities and they do load and unload faster, simply coz theyve more doors.
But the driver seemed to be far away from the end of the bus. Wouldn't it be difficult to spot people jumping into the bus at the station, esp. during peak hours?
If San Francisco isn't hilly, I don't know what city is... But the biggest problem with articulated buses (and all other buses) in SF is that fare evasion is a HUGE problem, especially in Chinatown. (It's all done in the open! People aren't trying to hide it! Just walk calmly past the driver, or jam through the rear doors!)

Virgin America
Favorite planes:
Concorde
Boeing 747-400
Planes I absolutely hate:
All Airbuses (no, I'm not biased towards Boeing )

I've flown in:
Cathay B747 HKG-SFO 7/1996
Singapore B747 SFO-HKG 7/2001
Cathay A340 SFO-HKG (it was an A340 probably because of the SARS scare) 7/2003
Virgin America A320 SFO-LAX 12/2007
Cathay B747 SFO-HKG 7/2008
Favorite interests outside of aviation:
-F1

« on: January 19, 2009, 02:49:20 am »San Francisco--the city whose transit network looks GREAT on paper, and is crap in real life... (70% on time says it all)
ETI-Skoda electric bus--While our transit system--SF Muni--may be crap, we're still San Franciscan--and that means being green. No offense to other places.
Neoplan USA biodiesel bus
New Flyer hybrid biodiesel-electric bus
Our mayor looking at the inside of the (only) "Connected Bus" with wi-fi. While he can't improve Muni, he CAN do absolutely useless things so that he gets his fair share of media coverage.
Breda streetcar, on the Muni Metro, which isn't really a subway, just a bunch of (aboveground) streetcar lines all funneling down into one (underground) corridor.
Our 1930s-era historical streetcars. Although only tourists ride these, they're one of only a couple of things I'm proud about Muni.
Another thing I'm proud of--cable cars! (This one has an ANA ad on the front, too!) I sometimes wonder how the friendly operators on these can work for the same agency which provides me with angry, crazy drivers who shuttle me to school daily--and (once) slam doors shut on me. Then again, these cable cars are (last time I checked) FIVE dollars one-way. Ouch.
[/end rant]
Usually, I'm not such a pessimist, but if you disagree, please come to San Francisco, and talk to a normal local. (Then again, most "locals" are immigrants from the East Coast.)
EDIT: The thread which I was looking for which never existed until I created it is here: http://stephenm.org/smfforum/index.php?topic=9599.0
EDIT #2:
You guys still have these? Well, at least there's TWO cities with these now...
EDIT #3: You know you're in SF when the bus sign reads "Gay Pride Parade". Take a good, long look at the hybrid bus...

Yep, that'd work if you had enough hours left...
Exactly. But it's the hours I'm concerned about. But anyway, all this is irrelevant if this bug isn't fixed. Thanks anyway!
