Title: First Snow of the Season!
Post by: Seattle on December 15, 2008, 04:50:34 am
Hey there! Seattle is getting the first sno of the season (well got).

We had 2-3 inches at my house and up north they had 2-6 inches and of course the mountains got 2-4 feet.

However, arctic air has seeped in for instance, todays high temp was 29F and our expected low is 19F

Unfortunatly the snow on my road was plowwed  >:( because the plow had to take a detour since its ussual street was having road work done on it!  >:(

Well, Seattles average high temp for this time of the year is I think 45F and the low is 36-37F, so were well below normal
----

The unuasul thing about it is that Seattle is not forecasted to go above freezing (32/0) for at least the next 10 days!

Forecast:

Mon: 27/28 .... 17 clear
Tue: 26/27 .... 19 clear
Wed: 29/30 .... 24 SNOW
Thur: 27 ...... 15 SNOW
Fri: 24 ....... 14/15 partly cloudy
Sat: 27 ....... 18 SNOW
etc.

Forecasters even indicated a possible white Christmas  :D :D :D

So, how are AM player's winters going?

You really shouldn't say winter. *nods to the southern hemisphere*

Well here in Reno its snowing right now as i write this (10:20pm Pacific time)
It's been snowing for an hours or 2 now, and ment to carry out all night and into the day tomorrow. So hopefully a school delay just might happen :) .

How much snow do you need to have before school is canceled in America?
Here in NZ the whole city shuts down after about 1 inch of snow  We see people riding Kayaks down the hill roads.
Me and my friends usually just walk out of school and go to the mall when it starts snowing heavily (although it hasnt really snowed a lot at all here for about 2 years now)

Well, here in Reno we only see a certain amount of Snow, as Reno is a valley, so the mountains still all the snow :P . But about ever 2 to 3 years we get a big snow storm. I have had a whole week or more of school canceled from one storm. But, id rather have a delay, as a delay you don't make up at the end of the year, but a canceled school day, you make up.

You have to make up school days!? That would suck...
During the heavy snows we had at school, it was always closed at around lunchtime (after me and my friends had left...) so we never had to make up a day.

Put it this way. if their is a dusting on the grass, people will freak out. If we get 1 inhc over everything and nothing melts. Boom. School is closed.  8)

Today we got a 2-hour delay.  :D

Im crossing my fingers for Wednesday-Friday for no school  8)

In the NYC/Boston/DC area: you need to be practically buried. It better not snow in NYC because I'll have to practically dig my way to my exams.

On the west coast? 1/2 inch.

we got a couple inches today, but my county didn't make a delay or cancel school. As last year they made some delays for only a bit of snow, and parents got mad as they had to find ways to get someone to watch there kids for the delay. So this year, my county is being very careful. To Careful, as it was a mess getting to school.

Well, Sunday nights low temp of 19F, broke the record!  :)

today: 15F....with wind chill around 0-5F  :o

between 3-8 inches of snow in the period of Tue-Thurs..... which means a 99% chance of closure :)

We got snow here in Vancouver too! It started snowing on Fri. , but that was only slush, but on Saturday night, it snow real hard. We got 5cm in like just 1 hour. It was pretty cool. Currently, there is about 5-7 cm of snow on the ground. The next snow in the forecast is on Sun., where 5-10cm will fall here. :P

Haha! All you suckers having winter! It's warm here!
It's been averaging around 20-22 Degrees C here (68-71 degrees F) for the last few weeks, and due to get warmer. Lovely. :D
It never, ever snows in Wellington. We have the odd heavy hail shower but that's it. It would never get below freezing here either.

If you think 2-3 inches is enough to close down school, try 12-13. :P Yeah, weather is crazy

here, but this is the only place on the world where it gets this bad. We had a day off

because of this...actually, AI already had a day off. The cheapskates at the Administrative

building gave everybody else. So please re-think your view of "large amounts of snow." You

live in Seattle, it should take more to shut down school - more or less give you a delay. ;)

Also, we have been canceled due to -50 degree wind chills. For those of you outside of the

US, of course I would be using Fahrenheit - that should be assumed.  :P

Umm.... we are getting large amounts of snow... so before you get your Eastern "ohhh look at how much snow we get dont complain" you have to realize that In seattle the elevation goes up from 0 to 500 feet in less than a mile before going back down to 150 feet and then to 300. Its very hilly in Seattle, resulting in icy hills which no one can drive up or down. Plus were forecasted to get 4-8 inches of snow and about 6 inches on Sat-sun.

yet.... we get a 2 hour delay again even though there isnt to much snow left on the road ways  :D

I got snow for the first time in years, but I don't think it counts, because I was in Prague at the time. If you are ever there and it snows take the funicular up to Petrin (lots of missing accents), its like Narnia up there! :D

Fri: 24 ..... 11 COLD and sunny

You've obviously never driven on the Saw Mill River Parkway. It's hilly AND curvy. ;)

Does the elevation go up from 0 to 500 to 300 to 400 in 1 mile?  ;)

Well they cancelled school today.... and I'll we've seen is snow melt..... as the snow has been delayed because we got a Rain/Snow shadow. However they still said 2-5 inches for this evening  :D

Yes, Seattlelites are pathetic, but the highest point in Seattle is like 650 feet high. Seattle is quite small, yet it can be snowing, raining, hailing, sunny, windy, cloudy, and foggy all at the same time in the city.....

We Denver-ites like to say how awful it is just to keep all you riff-raff away.

Snow rarely sticks around. We get 300 days of sunshine a year. And you can choose to go golfing or skiing (or both!) almost any day between October and June.

But seriously, Denver is cold and snowy. And cold. Really cold. And really snowy. Stay away.

:P
