Don't buy any L/H at all :P It only looks nice on your route map, although that's over too when you go over 1000 routes.

yes its a hell.  But the world only go for 10 years so i never replace a plane.

Wow. If that world lasted just 10 years, and there's like 2 years left, that would mean you build that airline in 8 game years. So basically you're saying you played AM like 20h each day :P Gotta respect the size tho. I've had some biiiiig airlines, but never as big as yours. Just under 700bln would be my personal best. But that took me ~20 game years...  :o

You are correct, I tried to tell that in my example (seems like it didn't go well). The Cessna's increase the average age, increasing maintenance. Let me give you another Cessna-747-example:

You have this fleet:
10x 747-400, age 1
3x Cessna 208, age 20

It costs roughly the same as this fleet:
7x 747-400, age 1
3x 747-400, age 20
3x Cessna 208, age 1

Average age is the same for both fleet, value is almost the same (the older the plane, the lower the value), so the maintenance will be almost the same. Example two is a little bit cheaper due to the thee 15-year old 747's loosing value.

But a brand new 747 might cost more than a 20-year old Cessna 208. Just note that the maintenance can get extremely high if your planes are very old. Currently I have 1.5 billion in maintenance fees with 389 7-year old planes.

Did it help? :)

I never really thought about MXF like that. But if that's true, it would mean that if I have a mixed fleet of 300 aircraft with an average age of 10 years, and I decide to buy 300 Antonov An-3T's (cost ~150mln in total) it would drastically decrease my MXF, right?

I'm in. I'll go for jetBlue. Won't be too accurate with my fleet though.

Love these ~10 year worlds. It's perfect. Not too long, not too short.

Cheers

Oh man I'll be really rusty as I've not had much time for AM lately but now i have a solid 2 weeks to build the foundation of an airline, wich is what really counts imo. I'm really interested in not having a base in the U.S. Any suggestions? Or possibly, for a real challenge, honolulu.

How about the middle east? And not Dubai-middle east but some of the smaller airports like King Abdulaziz/Khaled. You'll have a peaceful and competitor-free life there ;) A good place to start after a sabbatical, if you'd ask me

I see why you are joking...

Skylite Airlines:
http://www.airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/show_airline.php?id=31&wid=2146

Hehe yea, well, I've done this earlier, catching up 20-30bln airlines, but this world only lasts 9 more years so that's quite short. Unless he goes inactive ;)

Btw, you in this world too matias? :)

Well, for me it would be :P The smallest hub I've been at is Bole International. And growing an airline there went dead slow. Can't imagine what it would be on an airport half that size :P

Can we get a link to your airline? Thanks! :D

Hehe I was kind of kidding. Although, I just started and I'm expecting to grow pretty fast once I'm done with my tests at school  But it's a loooooong run

Are newbies OK to play this kind of world?

I don't want to get into some intense competition right away as I'll get stuffed :)

I would start at a medium sized place within striking distance of some big cities so after a while I could try competition and see what to do.

I'm confused by all the number of Private Worlds available :-\ - There's only 2 Public Worlds, one's nearly finished and the others only in Australasia - 78 airlines in Aus? I'll stay clear of that bunfight :o :)

It's fine by me :) The more players, the better  ;) By the way, PW#2146 is pretty fun world too. Did start not too long ago. Most of the carriers there are <1bln airlines. And it lasts 10 years too.

Count me in ;) Although I prefer to be in a world with at least 20-25 players, so some recruiting needs to be done, I guess :P

I find myself playing to win most of the time though... I just can't help it :-\ But you need some of those too, right

Wait one year (2001) and go with CRJ701's. As far as I know the most profitable aircraft out there

In real life I prefer Boeing though (777's = WOW), although the A350 looks absolutely gorgeous!
