I don't think theres a great difference in between high fuel costs and high taxes. You can reduce taxes but you can't reduce your fuel cost(except youre drivin a motorpad). Youve to drive to work, drive to your dad's home/ mum's home....
But youve a free health system....
When youre sick, cancer, or what so ever, youve a almost-free health system. Youll appreciate that when youve cancer or what.

Obama: Free Health System, Lower fuel costs
McCain: Lower taxes.

I don't see why people will vote for McCain....

There are also some social issues apparently. There are people here who like to have a conservative Point of View (as there is in all countries), and since McCain is a Republican, which is mostly conservative compared to the Democrats (supposedly), and that is who McCain is aiming himself (at conservatives).

With that said though, I don't like any of these guys. McCain is socially is trying to appeal to social conservatives pretty much and push their agenda, Obama is very hard to keep up with and it's hard to see where he stands. After talking with other people, they feel the same, I think this might be when Ralph Nader gets about 10% of the vote as opposed to his usual 3%.

I should add that we have a tax slashing governor in Florida now, and he had slashed taxes so much so far, that many public services (police, schools, Fire Departments) had to make cuts sizable cuts, or the districts having to pick up from there and create their own taxes. Most tax payers here who were told that Amendment 1 (the amendment that voters had to vote for to pass his cuts) would save the FL homeowner thousands per year, though many were surprised to find even 500 bucks in savings. If McCain becomes president, we might have that same thing happen in a larger scale as federal funding for some things may get cut, and as a college student, that concerns me, as it means I'll have to pay even more to go to school since most of the federal funding wouldn't be there.

It's the reason why Communist governments ultimately fail-
The government is inefficient and wasteful with money...
http://www.heritage.org/research/budget/bg1840.cfm -- Don't read the whole thing, just look at the list of ten...
Or look at this -- http://www.fee.org/Publications/the-Freeman/article.asp?aid=3782

Yes, that is the reason some Communist governments fail. A bit of socialism wont make a country a communist country. Besides, the Liberals will still have roughly 40% of the power in the congress. If they change government every few years, its the perfect balance. The Socialists wont make a communist country, the liberals wont make a liberal country. It will be the best of both sides.

BTW, its not a good idea to claim communism and socialism is bad, when your country has never had any experience with either.

Why would public health systems be bad just because it is run by the government? The entire Europe does perfectly with a public health system. Private hospitals still excist in the oh-so socialist Europe, for those who are naive enough. And what would you do if you had no money, and got injured or sick?

Caugh - caugh. It does not. At least not in Germany. Let me tell you something about it.

Feel sick? Your stomach hurts? Ok, first you need to go to your family doctor. Have not been here this quarter. Pay 10 EUR. "I got an insurance!" You still have to pay. Now the doctor has a look at you just to tell you he cant help here and he sends you to a specialist. You call his office to meet him. "You have never been here before? Well, we have no time for you right now. How about in three months? Oh, and you have a public insurance? No private one? Sorry, you'll have to wait another two months." "Hey, it hurts now! I need help!" "Sorry, you may look for another specialist." Ok, you do so just to experience the same story again. Don't believe me? Its from my own experience.

The only chance to meet a specialist on time is when you lost 1 liter of blood already or unconscious.

The percentage you have to pay from your wage raised a lot within the last few years. As of now you pay about 15% of your total income (the half is payed by your company). Years ago we once had a good public health system. Lost a tooth? Insurance payed for. Today? Hope you have a big vallet to pay for or got an additional private insurance. Need some medicine on a regular basis (like asthma spray)? Pay for it (if your pharmaceutical expenses exceed 10% of your annual brutto income you'll get a small refund).

I dont think we have the worst health system here but it gets worse everyday. :(

Thank you  :D
This is exactly what I'm talking about a deteriorating health care system.
They start out with fine intentions, but end up worse than Private Health care.
The fact is, governments aren't going to provide the most cost-effective/timely service since they're not making a profit out of it... They're simply doing it because they have to. (The same thing that happens in a Communism, might I add)

I'm sure most of Europe's health care isn't quite as bad as AirHannover said (not yet), but it's certainly far from perfect.
And might I add that you're just paying for health care through higher taxes and your lovely 21% VAT?
(VAT is basically just government induced inflation.... Sales tax is, imo, better)

    - Can you name a communist government that can be described as successful, economically or otherwise?

China? They're hardly a communism, with they're forty some billionaires...

Soviet Union did great until they collapsed...
Note that I have nothing against Russians or Chinese people

You just eliminated one, China. Vietnam is fast on the way to become succesful too. Vietnam had to recover from war and trade restrictions imposed by the "The land of free trade". You cant really say that Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have been unsuccesful either  (not the greatest succes stories though).

But i was not writing of communist countries being great. I was writing about governments that are part socialist. There is a difference. Unlike the US, where you can vote for the political right wing and the political right wing, in Europe we can choose between left and right. Europe is not exactly unsuccesful, is it?
