I noticed that I have an option to "scrap" one of my planes. What exactly happens if I select this option? What are the advantages & disadvantages of doing this?

You get about 10~15% of the value of the plane in cash.

Advantage: you get rid of the plane instantly.
Disadvantage: Seeing that the minimum price on the market for reselling is 50% value, if you could get rid of the plane on market, you get quite a bit more. However, you might have to wait a while until someone buys it.

DO NOT scrap. As dktc said, you only get 10-15% value back. Sell on the market for 50%. Much more return. The wait isn't that long...

Don't forget that your airline value drops when you scrap aircraft.

Try sell them, if they don't sell after ages, scrap 'em.

Just s little caution... if you put them on market, you still pay maintenance. As a result, scrapping may not be that bad an idea. However, you should check out the market first, of course.

Well, scrapping planes aren't that bad because you can get some money no matter how old / unpopular your plane is

Well my main concern is the high maintenance costs of my airline especially for my older planes. I guess it would be better for me to have them in service earning some of those costs back over it sitting idle  for sale.

Age does not matter. I would rather buy an old Caravelle that costs 50% than dktc's 133% 737-200

Is it easy to sell 30 5-year-old Caravelle and B-722?
I don't think so..... 8)

Is there a way by which I can find out how much maintenance is for each aircraft? That way I will be able to determine if it's better for me to just scrap a plane, keep it on the market or continue flying it.
