My question is, are supersonic planes worth it (for intercontinental routes). Considering they can do many more flights per day, but have higher costs. Also, which one is best, despite most people buying Concordes, the Tu-144D seems better to me.

Concorde (BAC)
Seats: 144, Speed: 1450, Range: 4439, Fuel: 6177 ($339m)
Tu-144 (Tupolev)
Tu-144: Seats: 126, Speed: 1240, Range: 1553, Fuel: 4922 ($190m)
Tu-144D: Seats: 156, Speed: 1320, Range: 4349, Fuel: 5875($328m)
Tu-144S: Seats: 140. Speed: 1347, Range: 4025, Fuel: 5650 ($299m)
Note: all of these planes take 96 days to build.

they all suck. Concorde not as much as the others, but they kill airlines

Don't bother.

Buy some good capacity long range (B747-200, L1011-500 or B747SP is recommended) conventional jets.
More economical and profitable.

I like concorde...they're cool :D

They do seem to make money when you lease them out. I'm breaking even on one and making a little profit on the other (I have 2, a third coming in 1 day).

Usually concordes are best for round the world runs rather than going back and forth across the pond.

I think in the next few days a will buy a Tu-144D and a Concorde.  :D

I only hope that you'll do something cool with it, like go around the world, instead of jumping the pond back and forth and back and forth and back and forth....well you get the idea.

One of my concordes starts its day in San Diego, going to Boston, London, Paris, Dubai, Singapore, Sydney, Manila, HK, then Tokyo. Then I couldn't figure out how to get across the pacific back to San Diego (so it just backtracks the second day) :(

I have a lot more fun with the around the world thing and plus it actually makes more money.

I am currently running 9 of them (+7 on order) making me the biggest Concorde operator in World #4 :) (I know it cost a lot to BUY and to RUN them - I just use them for fun :wink: )

I let them fly from my North American hubs to Hawaii, North & Central America as well as to some European cities.

I use my Tu-144 on short/medium haul instead. quite profitable, as it can make nearly twice as many turns a day as a conventional plane. (Heathrow-Lipetsk, for example, makes a bundle)
but I guess, I would be better off with 3 MD-82 instead.

in the last round (pre-MW)

my concorde fleet profit averaged at just over 700K

i'd call that profit.

and plus, because of its high-speed, it allowed me to connect cities across the atlantic as though i was connecting cities across europe.


edit: did i mention i was running out of Glasgow Prestwick? not exactly a big airport.

I'm making a tiny bit of profit off of them....currently averaging about 840k. But mostly I run them for fun. Once I have enough money to replace their routes with bigger planes, I'm gonna do round the world trips.

Hmm... you know, I guess you're lucky to be making some kind of profit from your Concorde flights, even if it is only a few bucks, probably literally.  I think after seeing the posts on here, and from the valuable advice from Lusitana, I think I might just 86 my BGA Direct proposal and go with Convair 990s and other aircraft for my international expansion.  I think the L-1011 might be the biggest aircraft I order.  I might wait for the -500.  It has almost the range of the 747s, but I think it costs less and probably will make just as much as a 747.  I have ordered them in the past, but I really wasn't satisfied with them.  They cost probably 2x as much as an L1011 to operate and maintain.  So for me, there really is not much of a point...

Will the L1011-500 even be available during the 1970s, or won't that come out until... well... not in this world?

Again, the concorde is just a toy that I like to play around with. It's not really a profit center. My profit centers are mostly domestic and select international routes...:D
