.........Engine fan blade!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aircraft-Jet-Engine-Pratt-and-Whitney-PW-JT9D-Boeing-747-Jumbo-Jet-Rotor-Blade-/260964369228?_trksid=p4340.m444&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6605034430669112016#ht_500wt_1361

I know its not the one you will see at the front of an engine but I am going to get it professionally polished and get my dad who is VERY skilled at wood work to mount it on a wooden plinth. I think as a aviation enthusiast it will not only look good as a piece of modern art, but be a good conversation piece!

What I will do is take photos of each stage of it if people want might be interesting if other people purchased one and wanted to know how it turns out etc.

regards
dave

You tricked me there. But hey, who has the money for a complete 747?

I look forward to see the final result :)

But hey, who has the money for a complete 747?

I do  Not a "legally flyable" one though. You'd be surprised at how cheap the old bangers (ie 747-100/200/300/SP) in the scrapyards go for. Nobody wants them, and even the spare parts are next to worthless nowadays. They have too few parts in common with the 747-400, and if you want 747-400 parts plenty of those types are going to the scrapyards nowadays.

Example:
1978 727-200, parked in Jordan - flyable. Only $130000. I'd bet that the engines, guages and interior (seats) make up 90% of the price. Anything else is worth only the price of scrap metal.

Or how about a stripped out 1988 737-300? Only $11.000. It probably suffered an accident on top of that.

BTW, it'll be a nice thing when it's complete. We want pictures when it's done!

I will get pictures of it from when I open the envelope.  Sad i know but I cannot wait to get it. Its kinda like seeing a plane go over head and thinking " How many happy people are on that plane, going to a new job, new life, a holiday, or just going home, and even how many people are on that plane with broken hearts, leaving loved ones behined, how many dream have been broken..." except for it will be in my living room looking pretty.

Its a sad thing really but as these engines are now longer produced (as far as I am aware) its part of aviation history, I would love to know which model aircraft it came from, its either a 100/200/300 series. Its also the engine that powered the fateful PA103 aircraft amoungst others.

I would love to know which aircraft this has come from, surely it will have a serial number on it and maybe I can find a P&W contact to find out which plane it came from.

The blade is from a JT-9D. That engine powered the 747-100/200/300/SP. I'm not sure, but I doubt that this particular part varied through the different variants.

The JT-9D was also fitted to DC-10s, A310s and A300s.
