Those years depends on how fast we develop other sources of energy (hydrogen, biofuels, sun/wind/wave energy, etc...). The faster we develop alternative means, the more unstable the Middle East will get. Sooner or later those countries will collapse (like any other country in the world)

Well, according to oficial numbers, there is roughly 50-70 years left for gas, and as far as I know, there is something like...30? years left for oil.
And other sourses of energy... Well, as for me, the only nice thing not running on fossil fuel at the moment is an electric train. And I can hardly imagine... Boeing 777 with an electrical prop engines, heheh.

We won't be running out of fossil based fuels (and that includes crude oil) for the next 1000 years. We will merely use up all the easily accesable oil wells. The tar sands in Canada are estimated to contain as much crude oil as the entire middle east, but bringing it up is just much too expensive. Same goes for the arctic resevoires. The development will make alternative sources of energy more popular at some point.
