I am going to open up a second hub in a few AM days and I am wondering if there is any advantage in sending a flight back to the first hub.

For Example.

XYZ airlines hubs out of New York and flies to L.A.

XYZ airlines then opens a hub at L.A.  Even though I already have a flight between NY and LA with its home base at New York, is their any advantage in running a second flight between LA and NY hubbed out of LA?

Pros:

You get to fly that aircraft from that airport to cover up hours.

Cons:

Well, your other plane's loadfactor drops!

You won't get much added benefit from flying LA to NY. Instead as you add more routes to your LA base, watch the demand for your NY-LA route grow. You will be able to inch up the price as traffic grows at LA.
