Hello!

I have this problem: FSX lags as *** when there's sound playing - especially ATC.

It has never occurred until today. The problem is that I fly. Whenever there is sound playing, my framerate (FPS) drops a little bit - but not always. Then the ATC tells me something, and the FPS drops to one or two. I then press 'q' (mutes all sound), and voialá, the FPS is up at 12-15 (I've set my max at 15).

I've tried many things. Reboot my computer, disable custom scenery, close background programs, disable anti-aliasing; but nothing works.

I'd like to hear if any of you have an idea of what the source of the problem could be?

Specs:
4Gb RAM
nVidia 8600M graphics (512 MB)
Intel centrino 2,0 GHz
Windows 7

Computer is a laptop, two years old, reformatted in may.

I hope you can help me :)

PS: The problem can happen at 50000ft above sea, and in the middle of Manhattan. It doesn't matter where I am, it appears all the time.

I don't think so... The problem does not always happen, but 80% of the time the ATC is talking, it lags. Both the FPS drops, and the sound gets disturbed and laggy.

Strange. Try reinstalling the game.

I'd prefer not to. But maybe that's the only way out? I'll wait and see.

I don't think there's new drivers, but I'll take a look.

...or try resetting the the sound settings in FSX to default.

if it doesn't work, try resetting the whole speaker settings to default.

I guess try it with all the defaults and remove the FSPassengers (what is it?)

( i got a 3+ Ghz PC, 4 gigs RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate) it was purchased a month ago, and FSX works GREATTT on it!

Does your PC use Realtek HD Sound?

Yes.

Alpha Mike? I like FsP, I don't want to leave it behind. Unless it makes my fps go down to 2...

@FSP: Cool! Does it add Crash Textures?

@Sound: Does the sound only happen in FSX?

Another strategy: Try leaving the sliders to Default. My dad's laptop is 1.6 Ghz, win XP and if its higher than default, it doesn't load.

The 2.00 GHz is not THAT bad, but try shutting down all the programs you dont need including anti-virus. to keep you protected, turn wireless off ;)

I hear the processer hits up to 100% while running FSX. THAT ^ might be a solution. On my new computer, the full specs are:

Make: MDG
Model: PowerPC
OS: Win 7 Ultimate
Sound "manager" : Realtek
Anti-virus: Microsoft Security Essentials
Hard Drive: 500 GB
RAM: 4 GB
CPU: Dual Core 3 GHz Intel Pentium ___
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD
Graphics Memory: 2 GB (Overall) 1 GB ( Dedicated)
Normal CPU  stat: 5%
FSX CPU stat: 30%

The stat is when it comes to task manager. it is usaully @ 30 - 50% wth all the background programs running, with FSX.

Quick and easy solution = X-plane for teh win!

um... I don't think it isa good solution because the minumum CPU requirement is 2 GHz.

P.S. how do you calculate Frames per Second?

@FSP: Cool! Does it add Crash Textures?
No, but it detects crashes, and gives you points depending on how good your flight was.

@Sound: Does the sound only happen in FSX?
Not what I know of. But on my last flight SFO-Easter Island, the were no sound problem - but no sound on most of the journey too...

The 2.00 GHz is not THAT bad, but try shutting down all the programs you dont need including anti-virus. to keep you protected, turn wireless off ;)
Sadly, I can't turn Norton 360 off. I've already tried, with no luck.

I do have it, but the texture quality is low, and so are the panels. But I haven't flown it so much.

P.S. how do you calculate Frames per Second?
In FSX, hold 'shift' and press 'z' three times. In the upper left corner, you will see three lines of red text:
One with your position, altitude, heading, speed and wind heading and speed.
On the second line there is:
Frames per second, G-force (normal is 1.0) and percent of fuel left.

I hope this helps.
