4th pilot in A300

Hi!

Just a question why is there a forth pilot in some of the A300 models?

As thats how many pilots are recomended to pilot it by Airbus.

So when we get to 747-400 11 - 12 hour flights they should be double crewed.

Now you're getting into complicated stuff. It would depend on route lengths and airlines preference too. For Instance a trans-atlantic flight in a 744 would likely have a 3 man crew (Cap F/O + S/O) but a flight at full range might have a 4 man crew. That could get complicated as the parameters are not set and are left at the disgretion of the airline.

The Naviagtor may be another name for the fight engineer. Although I thought the A300 was the first aircraft to go without them :?
