2 of mine are on the route at $1 that somebody thought it would be fun to send a bunch of routes at $35 instead of the $300+ we were all charging

I'm sure the 747s are gonna do good in Asia.  I just started with trans-pacific routes and the returns are decent.  I wish I had 747s.

Greetings, guys.  An online friend --pseudoswede-- just pointed me to this thread so I'd like to reply.

The reason I first got into 747s was I believed the game would reach a stage (like it did late last round) in which the only way to make money was by flying far.  I also assumed that those big birds would help milk big routes like HND-ORD for all that they are worth.

Both assumptions have turned out to be 100% incorrect.  In fact, my 747s perform so poorly that I'd be better off leasing them and stocking up on Starliners in their place.

All that having been said, I kept ordering 747s (in excess) last week because I was in Hawaii --woo hoo!-- and felt it would be cool to have a bunch to finish out the round (even if I didn't have enough time to edit my routes, much less grow).

Now that I'm back in Beijing, I am excited to get back into the game. I don't plan on ordering any more 747s (there is still a lot of money to be made ex-HND; plus there are much better long range planes out there; the Starliner may well be the very best).

I'm sure there are enough fools out there to make leasing 747's out a profitable business.

Wow, they really do that poorly huh?  I was debating getting a few for routes between 350k airports, like LAX-ORD and such I'm sure they'd do well on the route alone but I was worried that the 1:41 minute turn time was going to destroy it's usefulness.  Two round trips takes up 5 hours a day in turn time alone...

It seems like the only real reason you'd want a 747 is to take away profits from your competitors while taking a hit yourself.

Historically in reality, the 747 also had nearly killed a lot of airlines, especially in the US. I guess this mearly simulates it, though at that time, it was the mixture of high energy costs and everyone getting one for the sake of having one. Though they do make money in other ways, but they have not been implemented yet.

Carrots I've just ordered one too. Seems it may have been a waste. Ah well I'll never make a real life Richard Branson.
