Knock introduces transatlantic flights

29 January 2007 15:13

Twenty-one years after it was inaugurated, Ireland West Airport in Knock, Co Mayo, is to introduce its first scheduled transatlantic flights.

The flights will operate to and from Boston and New York. Low-cost UK carrier Flyglobespan will begin operating the flights in May.

There will be three flights a week to New York and two to Boston, originating in Liverpool and Glasgow and routing over Knock.

The airport board says the flights will bring up to 35,000 tourists to the western region and give the region a €28 million boost in the first year of operation.

Managing Director Liam Scollan said the US flights were a hugely significant development for the airport and would also be of enormous benefit to business and industry in the region.

Flyglobespan will be offering return fares of under €400 including all taxes and service charges on the two routes

I've seen reviews and comments about Flyglobespan on the web: it's supposed to be a terrible airline...
