Hi All,
I am currently competing in this world:

Airline Mogul - See my airline

I an using a Beoing 727-100exec for the atlantic run, I want to replace this aircraft with something high cap.
I was thinking to wait for a B741 or B742 but can they make back the out lay before the maintenance costs go through the roof, and also how long can I expect to run a 747 before I should consider sale/scrap? (B747 are my fav A/C in the real world btw)

I was thinking:

Boeing 747-100 Seating 452 @ €349,133,712
Douglas DC-8-63 seating 259 @ €200,618,512
Boeing 707-420 Seating 189 @ 173,813,639
Boeing 720 Seating 140 @ 111,318,045

I may purchase two, One from LHR - JFK and one to DXB

Any advice greatly taken

regards
dave

If you want to earn money, never fly anything with more than 300 seats. The maintenance will ruin your airline, especially with such a low DOC as you seem to have.

In 1969, your best bet would be either the 707 or DC-8. But the best long haul aircraft are the bizjets, because they earn themselves back faster than the big birds.

If you want to buy a big aircraft, I would suggest to take it easy expanding your airline. When your DOC is above 20 million it would be a good idea considering long haul.

Would you reccommend leaving the 727exec on that route on its own, set it to do a 1.5 or buy another and set that to do a 1.0 / 1.5

I think from what you are saying I would be better buying 10-15 x Sud Caravelles continue growing Heathrow and pehap open another base, maybe CDG?

I recommend the 707 or 720. Or maybe try the Tupolev Ty-114

Long haul earns most money doing 0.5 routes. E.g. you have a route to JFK at 1.0 earning 150,000, but you'll earn more doing a route to JFK at 0.5 for 100,000 and a route to BOS at 0.5 earning 100,000.

For now leave the 727 on that route until you get some big birds. That would be in around a year and a half.

That would be a good plan.
