Afaik, the in-game NM are in fact miles... I don't know why, but try to make a flight with a 3000 game-nm plane to a destination lying 3000 real nm away. The, try to a destination 3000 "normal" miles away. I just took 3000 nm as an example.

True, but then the A330-200 is a 7455 - 7642 mile bird
