Just joined up and I hope to get into the game. I'm a university student from Canada and a recreational pilot.

Some advice:

Don't take this game too seriously, I recommend the 1x frequencies on routes as opposed to the 2x-plus frequencies (Your profits will be at least double or triple what you would make with a 2x frequency route)  If you run into any trouble, a number of us are here and willing to assist you.

What is your airline, where are you based, and which world are you in?

Heh,
I already checked. He's in World #6.
I can't do anything for him there, it'll have to be some other airline that has a soft spot for start-ups, to help him.

As people have noted - I'm in world 6, based at Montreal - Dorval (It wasn't named Trudeau until 2004).

Are there ways to get loans for operating capital or do we need to earn it up front?

I would advise (and I know I am biased here) that you lease planes. It allows you to expand a lot faster, making it more fun and giving you more money to buy planes with later.

Careful with that! It's true, as a latecomer you need some leases, but don't get yourself too many (or too expensive) leased planes- in the end you'll work 23 of 24 days per month to pay back the leasing rates...

A helpful link is the wiki- although it hasn't got too much info it gives you basic ideas about how stuff works!

And btw, welcome to the game :D

Oh yeah. Leverage leverage leverage. Anyway, 100% load factor doesn't always mean you're making the most profit possible. Sometimes you make more money running a couple empty seats, especially on bigger aircraft. And brokerage is a great way to order planes before you have to cash to buy straight up. You see, planes take time to build and at a reasonable markup (anything above 0% basically) people will trip over themselves to take your requests, even if they're for concordes.
