When real world time meets game time. So what Jps said is about right.

Next reset will take us back to 1960....

In this game we were given a "free" ATR-72-500 when we started the game.  What aircraft will we be "given" when we start the 1960 game?

It hasn't been decided yet, but it could be a DC-3 (if I add it)

Why don't we all get a set amount of money instead of one plane?  Let the guy who wants to spend all of his money on a brand new 747 do that while the rest of us make money with our F-27's and DC-9's.

Two reasons.

one.  basically, it's the easiest method and is the existing method (more important things to change at the immediate present, i.e. terminals/bugfixes/lf tweaks)
two.  If you don't create a way to get a plane relatively immediately, a lot of new players will be immediately bored and never return... so until we come up with a good means to either select amongst a few used aircraft, or something else otherwise immediate, we're sticking with the 1 free plane method.

EDIT: IT is, though, in the long term goals.  and will likely be in for the age after next, if all goes to plan.

Because nobody would be able to play the game for atleast 24 hours while they are waiting for the planes to be delivered. Either that or brokers would have a whole pile of "Golden Oldies" on their books to distribute. :)

Would that be a bad thing?  It would give everybody a day to check out the new landscape and plan out what they're going to do.

What if we already know the new landscape, and know what we're going to do?

Just want to say there is no "new landscape".

All airports and their data would remain the same (except for dupes). So... when no one is able to fly, there is nothing to check out because you can't see anything about your competitor as yet.
