I am using Business Jets 737-200s with 707s for long haul. I started with other regular 737-200s but I am only using two of them and sold the others for the 707.

Thoughts on if this is a good idea?

What world would that be, and on what year you're in?

How big is your home base? Do you have competition? What is your DOC?

Year 1981 DOC just under 1 million ( i still have not put my 707 to work).

Lots of comp around the whole world not quite a public world but over 100 players 1 guy is running almost 1k planes.

Business jets have a higher ROI than dedicated lh-jets on long haul routes. But in this stage of your airline, I would highly recommend expanding short haul routes to increase your DOC. The 707 will increase your profit significantly, yes, but smaller planes of the same value, like for example four Caravelles would have increased your DOC with around 1 million, depending on your base.

Where are you based? In what world?

PW#2061. the new global world

I am not looking for alot of short haul routes. I will do that on the next public world possibly. I am looking for easier set up routes to save time while I get back in.

So I guess the question would be save up for 707s or use the 737-200BJ. Or another jet that would be better? Or what about using BJs for shorthaul routes. They are fast, hold 20 people or so and are cheap to buy if I did spend the time for a million short routes.

If your choice is between the 707 and the 737BJ, choose the latter.

For short haul I would choose the Fokker F28 Fellowship 4000, range 1200. For the little longer routes, go with Tupolev 134 or SE 210 Caravelle 10R. The 737BJ is too expensive compared to the capacity it has, and furthermore its range is only 4306, barely enough to make it across the Atlantic.

If you would like a plane you can afford with that DOP, go for Convair 600-240, high speed (295) and low cost (10m). This will get you going, and when your DOP is above the 5-8 million, go for jets - especially if you aren't extremely active.

When you get the 707, keep it and use it on short routes to big airports (you could of course go long-haul, it's up to you). The 707 is one of the best planes in AM in its lifetime - better than the DC-8.

I hope this advice helps, but always remember to have fun!

EDIT
Just a quick thought: You could try out the VFW-614, it has a high speed (380), and costs just 11m. Sadly, it can only fly for 741 miles, so think it through, maybe you won't have enough good routes to put it on.
