World Air Lines Launches Services
Chicago-based World Air Lines has launched services, becoming the first company in the country to get airborne following the government's deregulation of the aviation industry.

The airline has taken delivery of two Convair 340s, which have entered service on routes from O'Hare International Airport to Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Minneapolis/St Paul, New York JFK, St Louis, Toronto and Washington Dulles.  The company has also launched short-hop flights to Chicago Midway and Milwaukee, the first two routes in its planned network of feeder services branded under the American Eagle title.

The American Eagle network will be further bolstered by the delivery of a pair of C-202 Halcon aircraft from Spain's CASA later in January 1955, which will open routes to destinations that include Columbus, Dayton, Grand Rapids and Indianapolis.  The company is then planning a period of consolidation on the existing network in order to build up sufficient finances for further expansion later in the year.

Fleet Expansion Continues
World Air Lines has continued to grow since its launch earlier this year, with ongoing deliveries of Convair 340 aircraft to service its ever-expanding regional network out of Chicago.  The carrier has sold one of its CASA 202 Halcon aircraft and is offering the other for sale to airlines across the world, as it standardises its mainline operations on the Convair type.

The company has announced its intention to begin services to the West Coast, and has ordered a Lockheed Super Constellation to operate these new routes.  A daily return flight to Los Angeles is planned, and the airline is also evaluating San Francisco, Las Vegas and Seattle for possible service from Chicago.

Los Angeles Hub Opens, Coast-To-Coast Services Launch
World Air Lines has opened its third hub at Los Angeles International Airport, coinciding with the launch of coast-to-coast services between the city and New York.  The three-times weekly service is operated using the airline's new Lockheed Super Constellation, which is also operating on new Chicago-Los Angeles, Chicago-San Francisco and New York-Las Vegas routes.

The new hub has enabled the carrier to build a strong presence on the West Coast, with services now stretching from Vancouver and Seattle in the north to the airline's southernmost destination, Los Cabos.  The company is planning further expansion from Los Angeles, including more transcontinental routes to destinations that include Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia and Washington.

The company has also inaugurated the Wings Alliance, which will bring together airlines from across the world to offer customers joint ticketing, linked frequent flyer schemes and multiple connection opportunities.  The alliance has already welcomed Auckland-based start-up company Tasman Pacific Airways Corporation, which will be receiving support from its American partner during its first few months of operation.
