Flight sims for newbies

I was wondering for a new person what you would req to start off with without having to buy a whole bunch of new equipment? As for system req's I have a basic laptop with Windows XP os and bit of memory prob 20 gigs of unused.

gimmie proper system specs. the normal flight sim at use for beginners and people with low system specs is still FS9

The normal list. Processor, Video Card (and Video Card memory), RAM memory, that stuff.

Ah ok. I'll have to ask the Mr. about all that techie stuff. I'm lucky I can tie my shoes most days LOL

It isn't too hard to find the relevant information: just right click on the My Computer button (on your desktop or in Windows Explorer) and click Properties from the menu.
Under "Computer", you can find the Processor type, speed (in MHz or GHz) and the amount of RAM.

This is a picture of the System Properties box, you want the information down the bottom.

your better off typing in 'dxdiag' (without ' ) into Run

Without the mentioned specs it is hard to recommend a sim. But I am pretty sure FS2004 will do - depending on the laptop's age and the amount of addons you plan to install . Sometimes there is a cheap buy in a shop for this "old" sim.

just cause FS9 is about 5 years old doesnt mean that its not as good as FSX cause its 'new'. I personally prefer FS9 cause its easy to use and modify without the need for a too powerful computer (or laptop in my case)

Me too. It took too much time to setup FS9 the way it is now on my laptop to switch to FSX.

Try Flight Gear, that berely uses any specs.
